Item Bibliotherapy: The secret to improving problem behaviours(Department of Guidance and Counselling, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria, 2013-07) FAGBOLA, Olaronke O; Popoola Sunday O.The place of Bibliotherapy in the improvement of deviant behaviour was discussed. The processes, basic procedures in conducting bibliotherapy and levels of bibliotherapy were highlighted. Also, the benefits, relevance and limitations of bibliotherapeutic processes were stated and it was concluded that, though bibliotherapy is a widely employed adjunct to therapeutic process, it is important to remember that it is not a cure-all but just another tool in a practitioner’s box to deal with the varied emotional, behavioural and social issues of his/her clients.Item Contemporary issues in Library and Information Science Education Research and Rractice: A festschrift in honour of Professor D.F. Elaturoti.(Department of School Library and Media Technology, University of Ibadan, Nigeria., 2023-07) FAGBOLA, Olaronke O; Agbelusi, P.A.; Mohammed, N.Plagiarism is one of the most significant challenges bedevilling academia. The act manifests as self, accidental, and mosaic plagiarism; unreferenced use of published and unpublished ideas of others; requests for research grants; and publication of a full paper under new authorship, sometimes in a different language, amongst others. This study investigated undergraduate students' perceptions of and attitudes towards plagiarism in Kwara State, Nigeria. The purposive sampling technique was adopted in selecting two universities for the study. Multi-stage sampling was utilised in selecting the faculties, departments, and all the undergraduates for the study. A sampling fraction of 20% was used to select the respondents from each department, giving a total sample size of three hundred and fifty (350) undergraduates. The results indicated that the respondents had a positive perception of and attitude towards plagiarism. The study recommended regular awareness, sensitisation and training programmes, and solid institutional pressure to preserve academic integrity based on the findings. However, its acceptance as a means of knowledge transfer has been fraught with challenges, thus, limiting its effectiveness as a method of learning. This study investigated perception and attitude towards acceptance of e-Learning platforms for academic activities among Library and Information Science undergraduates in Kwara State, Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was employed using a questionnaire developed by the researchers based on reviewed literature. The population comprised 2,101 Library and Information Science undergraduates in the universities accredited for Library and Information Science Degree programme in Kwara State, Nigeria by the National Universities Commission. The findings revealed a high perceptions and positive attitudes towards acceptance of e-learning platforms for academic activities among the respondents. Also, findings revealed that some of the benefits of e-learning platforms for academic activities were improved access to educational resources, ability to collaborate with classmates and instructors, and improved time management skills. Based on the findings, it was recommended, that management of educational institutions should consider diversifying the types of e-learning platforms available for academic activities as this could involve exploring various software and tools tailored to different learning needs and preferences, thus increasing its acceptance among undergraduates.Item Library School Curriculum relevance to skills required by undergraduates in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.(Nigerian Library Association, 2023-11-30) FAGBOLA, Olaronke O; Tella, AdeyinkaThe Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) dispensation is evolving, and gradually the human workforce is being replaced with Automation, Artificial Intelligence, and Robotics among others. It is pertinent for undergraduates, especially Library and Information Science students to be adequately prepared for the world of work in this new dispensation through the curriculum of study they are exposed to enable them meet up with the needs of professional librarians for academic, government, private and public libraries upon graduation. Therefore, this study examined the relevance of the Library School curriculum to the skills required by graduates in the 4IR era in Kwara State, Nigeria. Survey design guided the study, and a questionnaire was used to collect data from 201 respondents. Data was analysed using descriptive statistics. Findings showed that the Library school undergraduates in Kwara State, Nigeria exhibits a high knowledge of the 4IR technologies and are knowledgeable in some of the skills required to function in the workplace in the 4IR era. The study recommended that the Library School undergraduates should be exposed to academic programs and training courses that address the 4IR peculiarities. This would lead to gaining creativity, complex problem-solving, collaboration, critical thinking, digital capabilities, and verbal communication skills among other skills. The chapter aims to sensitise distant learning students on available E-resources in NOUN library, accessibility to E-resources and the services rendered by librarians in a distant learning environment.Item Prospects of Internet of Things (IoTs) Technology Application for Library and Information Service delivery among Library Personnel in Academic Libraries in Osun State, Nigeria(Department of Mass Communication, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria, 2022) FAGBOLA, Olaronke O; Olajide, FareedahThe Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) is gradually evolving, and the world of work is undergoing massive technological transformations and advancements due to the adoption of cutting-edge computing technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, big data analytics, blockchain technology and the Internet of Things (IoTs) in the day-to-day management of business operational activities in diverse sectors of the economy of which the library is not left out. Against this background, the study examined the prospects of Internet of Things technology application for library service delivery in academic libraries in Osun State, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. A purposive sampling technique was used in selecting the five (5) university libraries used for the study. The total enumeration technique was used to cover all the 66 library personnel in the selected university libraries in Osun State, Nigeria. The validated questionnaire was used to collect data on 66 library personnel out of which 44 responded. The study found that online fine payment, e-library tour and shelf guide for new library users were identified as prospects of IoT technology application. Therefore, it is recommended the need for increase funding of libraries, improve infrastructural facilities to enable seamless usage of the Internet of Things and its related technologies in libraries and training and re-training of library personnel on the application of IoT and its related technologies for effective and better library service delivery that will improve the user experience.Item Providing Sustainable and Equitable Access to Information: Perspectives from Nigeria(Tai Solarin University of Education Press, 2016) FAGBOLA, Olaronke OInformation competencies are a key factor in lifelong learning. Libraries are indispensable in every facet of higher education and effective library support to distance learners is mandatory for qualitative delivery of instruction and learning. The focus of this chapter is on developing information literacy skills for distant education students with emphasis on the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) library users. The author examines what information literacy is all about vis a vis: concepts; basic elements; hallmarks of an information literate individual; and symptoms of information illiteracy. The chapter further discusses information literacy core competencies; basic skills of information literate; the importance of information literacy to NOUN library users; the role of NOUN library and librarians in impacting information literacy skills on distance learners.Item Use of Smartphones and reading habits of public secondary school students in Ibadan(Published by the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, University of Ilorin, Nigeria., 2020) FAGBOLA, Olaronke O; Atulomah, Bola C.Technology has transformed the teaching and learning process beyond the classroom walls. Reading unlocks the doors of the riches of knowledge and acts as a tool for learning. The smartphone is a mobile phone that performs many of the functions of a computer, typically having a touchscreen interface, Internet access and an operating system capable of running downloaded apps. Thus, leveraging on technological advantages through the use of smartphones to acquire knowledge and reading skills is relevant to all categories of students but its diverse functionalities can make it a source of distraction in learning exchange. The study investigated the use of smartphones and the reading habits of public secondary school students in Ibadan. The simple random sampling technique was adopted in the selection of the public secondary schools and the sample from the population. Results showed that the majority of the respondents owned a smartphone and possess a positive attitude towards reading books. The result further revealed that the effects of smartphones’ use on the reading habits of the respondents are that smartphones provide the opportunity to find books to read online and prepare for the examination. Considering the ubiquitous nature of smartphones and their role in the 21st-century learning space, it is recommended that stakeholders in the education industry should integrate digital mobile technologies into public secondary education learning space as this would encourage positive use of smartphones for academic-related activities across all classes for better academic attainments.
