Item Cigarette Smoking: Health Effects Awareness Among Sandwich Undergraduates, University of Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria(Faculty of Arts and Education, Lead City University, Ibadan, Nigeria., 2022-03) Ologele, I; Abdul, M.; Moshood, O. B.Medical experts warns that if the current rate of tobacco use by young people continues, five million of today's children will die of smoking- related illnesses in their later years. This study aimed to assess the level of awareness of lung cancer, heart disease and ulcer disease as an effect of cigarette smoking among sandwich undergraduates, the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. The study used a descriptive cross-sectional survey which involved the use of a Multi-stage sampling procedure to select three hundred and eleven sandwich undergraduates across the nine departments of the Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin. The result revealed that 66.6% of the respondents had knowledge that lung cancer is an effect of cigarette smoking, while 33.4% do not know 71.1% of the respondents had knowledge that heart disease is an effect of cigarette smoking while 28.9% do not know, 41.8% had the knowledge that ulcer disease is an effect of cigarette smoking while 58.2% of the respondents do not know that ulcer disease can be an effect of cigarette smoking. The research outcome indicated that there is a need to enlighten sandwich undergraduates on the health consequences of cigarette smoking to enable them to desist from the act.Item Factors Affecting Solid Waste Management among Residents in Ilorin South Local Government Area, Kwara State, Nigeria(Faculty of Education, Rivers State University, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt, Nigeria., 2023) Ologele, I.; Jidda, K. A.; Joseph, A. S.; Dabiri-Adewumi, A. O.; Fofana, M. Z.The study examined factors affecting solid waste management among residents in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria. The population of the study comprises of all the residents of Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State. The research design used for the study was a descriptive cross-sectional survey which involved the use of a multi-stage sampling technique to choose 200 respondents participated in the study through the use of a structured questionnaire. The reliability of the instrument for the study was established using test-retest method. The reliability coefficient of 0.84 was obtained using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. Frequency counts and the percentage were used to analyse demographic data of the respondents while inferential statistics of chi-square was used to analyse the result of the stated hypotheses at 0.05 alpha level. The result of the findings revealed that inadequate funding. poverty and inadequate sanitation facilities contributed significantly to the problem of solid waste management in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria. The study recommends that Government and non-government organization should provide sanitation facilities to residents of Ilorin South Local Government to make it easy for them to manage their solid waste effectivelyItem Influence of Learning Disabilities on Academic Activity of Students Attending Kwara State school for Special Needs(Department of Education Managemnet and Counselling Faculty of Education Al-Hikmah University Ilorin, Nigeria, 2022-06) Ologele, I; Dabiri-Adewumi, A. O.; Isiaq Mariam, O.; Daud, Bushrah; Hussain, T. O.Learning disability is a dysfunction in one or many basic psychological process which includes the understanding of language and its application. This study investigated the influence of learning disabilities on academic activity of students' attending Kwara State School for special needs. The purpose of the study was to examine (i) Impulsive and (ii) Hyperlexia have influence on the academic activity of students with learning disability attending Kwara State School for Special needs. A descriptive research design of survey type was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised of all students with learning disability in Kwara State School for Handicap. the Multi-stage sampling technique was used to select one hundred and twenty-two respondents participated in the study. A researcher-structured questionnaire that has been validated by three experts in the department of Health Promotion and Environmental Health Education, University of Ilorin was used for data collection. The reliability of the instrument established through test-retest method and result of 0.82 obtained through Pearson Product Moment Correlation. The two postulated null hypotheses were tested using inferential statistics of chi-square @0.05 alpha level. The finding of the study revealed that, impulsivity is an influence of learning disabilities on academic performance of students because the calc. value of 42.46 is greater than the tab. Value of 16.92 @ 0.05 alpha level of significance at the degree of freedom of 9, hyperlexia is an influence of learning disabilities on academic performance of students because the calc. value of 54.72 is greater than the tab. value of 16.92 @ 0.05 alpha level at the degree of freedom of 9. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that hyperlexia and impulsivity have influence of learning disabilities on academic performance of students attending Kwara State School for special needs. Therefore, the teacher should use appropriate teaching method that will make students with hyperlexia condition easily understand the knowledge impact to them.Item Knowledge and Practice of Antenatal Care Services Among Pregnant Women in Ilorin South Local Government Area, Kwara State, Nigeria(Department of Human Kinetics and Health Education, Faculty of Education, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria, 2022-08) Ologele, I; Abdul, M.; Olu, M. O.Lack of knowledge and poor practice of Antenatal care services led Pregnant Women towards registering with untrained birth attendance which resulted to several complications such as Virginal bleeding, Placenta previa and death of the Mother and the Baby. This study was carried out to investigate knowledge and practice of Antenatal care services among Pregnant Women in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State. A descriptive research design of the survey type was employed for this study. The population of the study comprised of all Pregnant Women in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State. Multi-stage sampling technique of simple random sampling technique, proportionate sampling technique and accidental sampling techniques were used to select 495 respondents for this study. A researchers-developed questionnaire validated by three experts in the field of Health Promotion and Environmental Health Education was used for the study. A reliability coefficient (r) of 0.76 was obtained through split half method using Cronbach alpha. The data collected were analyzed using the inferential statistics of ANOVA to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings from the study reveal that, there is a significant difference of (M-10.00, SD-1.0) in the knowledge of antenatal care services among Pregnant Women in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State, there is a significant difference of (M-38.7, SD = 3.5) in the practice of antenatal care services among pregnant women in Ilorin south Local Government Area of Kwara State. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that Pregnant Women in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State have differences in knowledge and practice of Antenatal care services based on their educational and economic status. Therefore, the researchers recommended among others that the Health Educators should carry out enlightenment campaign programme for couples through Mass Media on the value of Antenatal care services during Pregnancy to promote the health of Pregnant Women as well as that of their Fetus.
