Item Attitude of civil servants towards the provision of rehabilitation centers for beggars in Kwara State(Department of Education and Counseling Psychology, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida University, Lapai, Niger State, Nigeria., 2013) Bolu-Steve, Foluke. N.; Adeleke, S. A.The rate at which beggars are increasing on the Street is alarming. This menace is demeaning to the country and a lasting solution to this ugly incidence is needed. This study therefore investigated the attitude of civil servants towards the provision of rehabilitation centres for beggars in Kwara State. Descriptive survey design was adopted for this study. The sample comprised of two hundred civil servants randomly selected across the four Local Government Area in Ilorin Kwara State. The questionnaire titled "Attitude of Civil Servants towards the Provision of Rehabilitation Centres for Beggars (ACSTPRCBQ)" was administered by the researcher with the help of trained assistants. Four hypotheses were postulated in line with the research questions and tested in the study at alpha 0.05 significance level. The data collected were analysed through the use of t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) statistical methods. Findings revealed that there were no significant differences in the attitude of civil servants towards the provision of rehabilitation centres for beggars on the bases of gender and highest educational level, while a significant difference was found on the basis of religion and length of years in service. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that government should establish at least one rehabilitation centre for beggars in each local government area in order to reduce the menace of begging. Also professional counsellors should be employed so as to carter for the psychological needs of these group of people.Item Attribution of infant mortality by literate adults in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria.(Department of Science and Technology University of Jos Nigeria., 2015) Bolu-Steve, Foluke. N.Infant mortality is the death rate of infants between delivery and age of five years. This study was aimed at surveying the attribution of infant mortality among literate adults in Ilorin metropolis. Descriptive survey method was used in this study. The target population of this study comprised of all literate adults in Ilorin metropolis. The target population was all literate adults in Ilorin metropolis. A simple random sampling technique was used to select 5 wards from the four Local Government Areas so that all LGSA have equal and an independent chance of being selected. These Local Government Area (L.G.A) includes Ilorin East with 12 wards; Ilorin South, 11 wards, Ilorin West consist of 12 wards, while Asa has 17 wards. A purposive sampling technique was used in picking 10 educated respondents from each of the ward. Literate adults from the state ministries participated in this study. The instrument used to obtain relevant data for this research was titled "Attribution of Infant Mortality Questionnaire" (AIMQ). The instrument for this study was divided into three sections. Section A elicited the demographic data. Section B contained 24 items. Data collected were analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). All hypotheses were tested at 0.05 alpha level of significance. Result of this study revealed that there was significant difference in the attribution of literate adults on the basis of age, educational qualification, religion and marital status. No significant difference was found on the basis of gender. It was therefore recommended that medical treatment for children under the age of 5 years should be made free and that laws should be enacted against treatment of children in local setting while modern medical technology should be encouraged and affordable.Item AWARENESS OF SICKLE CELL DISEASE IN ILORIN, KWARA STATE NIGERIA. IMPLICATION FOR COUNSELLING PRACTICE(Department of Education, Gombe State University, 2018) Bolu-Steve, Foluke. N.A study was conducted to ascertain the awareness level of illiterates on sickle cell anaemia disease in Ilorin metropolis. A descriptive survey method was used in this study. A total of 420 respondents were randomly selected from four purposively selected Local Governments Areas (LGAs) in Ilorin metropolis, Nigeria. Data were collected through the administration of a questionnaire. Responses from the respondents were analyzed using percentages, mean, frequency, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and t-test statistical tools. The null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 alpha level. The study shows that there was no significant difference (P<0.05) in the awareness level of respondents on the awareness level of sickle cell anaemia on the basis of gender, age and religion. However, a significant difference was observed on the basis of marital status. The outcome of this study revealed that 83.8% of the respondents are aware of the disease but deficient in causes, treatment and prevention of the disease. Based on the findings, it is recommended that counsellors should organize enlightenment programmes among the illiterates as there is evidence that majority of respondents need information on the causes and prevention of sickle cell anaemia.Item PARENT’S ATTITUDE TOWARDS THE INTRODUCTION OF SEX EDUCATION IN MORO LOCAL GOVERNMENT SECONDARY SCHOOLS ILORIN, KWARA STATE.(School of Science and Technology Education, Federal University of Technology, Minna, 2016) Bolu-Steve, Foluke. N.; Nurudeen, B. A; Babadare D.AThis study aimed at looking at the parents attitude towards the introduction of sex education in Moro Local Government secondary schools Ilorin Kwara State. The target population for the study comprised all parents in Moro L.G.A in Ilorin, Kwara State. The researcher used stratified and simple random sampling to select two hundred (200) respondents from Moro LGA, Kwara State. The parents were stratified based on gender, age, etc. The researcher then selected two hundred respondents from each of the stratum using simple random sampling, a total of two hundred parents from ministries, churches, mosques, markets and schools were selected in all. Data were collected using a researcher designed instrument tagged “Attitude towards Sex Education Questionnaire” (ATSEQ). The data were analyzed using percentages, mean, t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The reliability of the instrument was ascertained through test retest method. A reliability coefficient of correlation of 0.88 was obtained. The findings of this study showed that there was a significant difference in the parents’ attitude towards the introduction of sex education in Moro LGA secondary school on the basis gender, age and educational qualification. However, no significant difference was found in the attitude of the respondents based on their religion and economic status. Based on the findings of this study, it was recommended that Community and educational psychologists should carry out health promotion programmes in communities. This will empower and educate parents on the importance of timely sex education, its contents and how it can be taught in secondary schools without encouraging promiscuity.Item School counsellor perception on the psychological development of child abuse of in school adolescents in Ilorin metropolis.(Department of counselling and psychology, University of Ibadan, 2015) Bolu-Steve, Foluke. The population for the study comprised secondary school counsellors in the four local government areas within lorin Metropolis. The targeted population for this study are the secondary school counsellors in Ilorin Metropolis. Purposive sampling technique was used to select 50 respondents from each of the four L.G.As. Thus making a total of two hundred respondents that participated in the study. The questionnaire consists of two sections. Section A dealt with demographic data, while Section B consists of items on the consequences of Child Abuse on the psychological development of In-School adolescents. Four hypotheses were generated for the purpose of this study. Data were collected using a researcher designed instrument tagged 'Consequences of Child Abuse on the Psychological Development of In-School Adolescents Questionnaire (CCAPDA)'. Items on the questionnaire were derived from information obtained from the review of related literature. The 4-point Likert Type Scale response format was adopted for use in Section B as thus: Strongly Agree: 4 points; Agree: 3 points; Disagree: 2 points; and Strongly Disagree: Ipoint. The questionnaire contains 20 items which the counsellors were expected to respond to. The data were analyzed using percentages, mean, t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), all hypotheses were tested at 0.05 alpha levels. The findings of this study showed that there was no significant difference on the basis religion and length of years.
