Item OCCURRENCES AND PERCEIVED STRATEGIES FOR ERADICATION OF STUDENTS’ UNREST IN POLYTECHNICS IN KWARA STATE, NIGERIA(Department of Adult and Primary Education, University of Ilorin., 2017-11) Abdulaziz, I.; BALOGUN, A.O.; RASHEED, S.A; ONIYE, R.O.Tertiary institution in Nigeria today has been battling with different kinds of unrest which invariably affects the academic activities in schools and its’ environment. This study therefore, carried out investigation on occurrences and perceived strategies for eradicating students’ unrest in Polytechnics in Kwara State, Nigeria. The design for the study was descriptive survey. The population was all lecturers and students of Polytechnics in Kwara State. The study sampled 365 lecturers and 1,162 making 1,527. Multistage sampling techniques involving simple random, proportional and stratified random sampling techniques were used to select the respondents. A researcher designed questionnaire titled, ‘Perceived Strategies for Eradication Students’ Unrest Questionnaire (PESUQ) with a reliability index of 0.72r was used to collect data from the respondents. The data collected were analyzed using percentage indices and t-test statistics. The result of the finding revealed that students unrest could be curbed or managed with the use of ID Card on campus, constitution of students’ disciplinary committee, creation of functional guidance and counseling unit, monitoring of unionism on campus by the management, presence of security agents (stop and search mechanism) and serious campaign through banners, bill boards, conferences, workshops and symposium. It was recommended that Sociologist, religious leaders, government, homes and school management should embark on enlightenment campaign programs to eradicate students’ unrest in our societyItem Opinion of teachers on the forms, factors and prevention of violence against girls in secondary schools in Lagos State, Nigeria(Department of educational management, University of Ilorin, Nigeria., 2014) ABDULAZIZ., I.; AKINTOLA, M.; BALOGUN, A.O.; IYEKOLO, A.O.Across the globe, school is regarded as a safe place for children. This is an important aspect that is put into consideration when parents entrust their children to teachers. However, schools are not entirely a safe haven for children. On this basis, this study examined the opinion of teachers on the prevalence, causes and prevention strategies of violence against girls in Lagos schools, Nigeria. The study adopted descriptive survey method and employed multi-stage sampling technique to select 384 teachers from 128 senior secondary schools in Lagos State, Nigeria. Mean rating was used for the three research questions raised in this study. A researchers’-designed questionnaire was used as the instrument and tagged Violence against School Girls’ Forms, Factors and Prevention (VASGFFP) with a content and face validity and reliability index of 0.78. Findings revealed that sexual assault, obligatory chores for teachers, rape, verbal abuse and corporal punishment are the major types of violence against girls. It also revealed that lack of parental attention as a result of broken home, poverty, school rules that permit the use of corporal punishment are the major causes of violence against girls in schools. Findings also revealed that symposium against the use of violence against girls, introduction of curriculum content on violence against girls and involvement of Parents Teachers Association are the major prevention strategies identified by teachers. On the basis of the findings, the study recommended that periodic symposium should be organized to keep learners, teachers, school administrators and parents informed on the consequences of violence against girls in school in order to mitigate its occurrence.Item Prevalence and Determinants of Sexting Behaviour Among Undergraduates in Kwara State(Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) in collaboration with Institute of Advanced Engineering and Science (IAES), 2019) BALOGUN, A.O.; OBIMUYIWA, G.A; ABDULAZIZ, I.; ONIYE, R.K.This study investigates the prevalence and determinants of sexting behaviour among undergraduates in Kwara State. The population for this study comprised all undergraduates in Kwara State while the target population was undergraduates of three universities in the Kwara States. A stratified sampling the technique was used to categorise universities based on ownership (Federal, State and Private) as well as gender. A random sampling technique was used to select 100 undergraduates from each university, totaling 300 respondents. A researcher-designed questionnaire titled Prevalence and Determinants of Sexting Behaviour Questionnaire (PASODOEBEQ) was used to elicit information from sampled respondents. The instrument was validated by experts in Sociology of Education and Educational Psychology. Test re-test method of reliability was applied to test the reliability of the instrument, using the Pearson Product Moment Correlation statistics. The coefficient value of 0.86r was derived. The data collected were analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation and Multiple Regression Statistical Tool. The result of the findings revealed that sexting behaviour is prevalent among undergraduates and low self-esteem and peer association are significant determinants. The study recommended among others that schools authorities as a matter of fact should organize a sensitization workshop or seminar for undergraduates on the meaning, ripple effects and the punishment associated with sexting behaviour for necessary social adjustment.
