Item Brexit Potential implications for Great Britain and Nigeria(Department of Political Science, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State, Nigeria, 2018-12) Awotunde, TaiyeThe formation of association of countries at global, regional and sub-regional levels is regarede as a matter of necessity by nation-states in order to promote political, economic and socio-cultural unity among them. It has also been realised that this would help reduce discord and conflict among states. It was on this premise that the European Union (EU) was formed. The main objective of this paper is to analyse the political, economic and social implications of Great Britain's exit from the EU, while Britain would be able to assert its sovereignty, its trading activities would be adversely affected. Anti- immigration laws that Britain may propose would impact negatively on Nigeria. The research methodology used is qualitative. The work was exploratory in nature. It made use of secondary sources like textbooks, internet materials, magazines and newspapers. The study found out that Brexit had lots of negative consequences for Nigeria, while in the case of Britain; the negative consequences are not overwhelming. The paper concluded that integration among nation-states is an essential ingredient of development. The paper recommends that Britain should still maintain close links with the members of the EU since no country can claim self-sufficiency. It was also recommended that Nigeria as a stakeholder should come up with an economic blueprint that would mitigate the impact of Britain's decision to exit the European Union.Item A comparative study of Nigerian and Indian administrative system(Department of Political Science, University of Ilorin, 2017-12) Awotunde, TaiyeThe role of an administrative system in the overall development of a country cannot be overemphasized. Apart from implementing policies and laws for the collective functioning of society, bureaucracy assists in policy formulation, sometimes through technical advice. The objective of this paper is to discuss the features of the administrative systems of developing countries of the world from a comparative perspective of Nigeria and India. System theory served as the theoretical framework of the paper. The research methodology adopted was qualitative, entailing the use of secondary data like textbooks, journals, articles and magazines. The findings of the paper are that the Weberian model influenced significantly the administrative systems of developing countries, and also that there exist remarkable similarities and differences between the Nigerian and Indian administrative systems. Also. a lot of policies, like the quota and federal character systems had influenced administrative system in developing countries. The paper recommends that developing countries should rebuild their bureaucracies (Civil Service) so that they will be able to contribute to national development.Item The imperatives of comparative public administration and new public management in a changing global environment(Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ilorin, 2017-10) Awotunde, TaiyePublic administration provides the machinery for the smooth operation of governments in a state. The comparative approach to the study of public administration emphasizes systematic and organised way of seeking knowledge which underscores the dominance of theory building and research that is based on empirical foundations. The study explained the concepts of comparative public administration as well as public administration in a changing global environment by analyzing the origin and characteristics of the New Public Management (NPM). The study has adopted the Bureaucratic System Approach. The study is qualitative, using secondary data sources, obtained from the existing literature such as journal articles, books, published research reports, the internet and various Works in the areas of public administration and comparative public administration in selected countries. The study concluded that public administration is ever relevant in a changing global environment. It made far-reaching recommendations such as the need to accord public administration its right of place in running the affairs of a state, imperative of public reforms and the urgent need to minimize corruption in the public sector to allow for enhanced service delivery.Item Migration and the challenges of manpower development in Nigeria(Department of Political Science and International Relations, Kwararafa University Wukari, Taraba State, Nigeria, 2019-01) Awotunde, TaiyeMigration is as old as the time man became conscious of his immediate environment and the need to better hís living conditions. It is a global concern in recent times because of the number of people involved and its attendant implications for manpower development in developing countries and Nigeria in particular. The main objective of this paper is to examine how migration has posed a serious challenge to manpower development in Nigeria. For various reasons ranging from poverty, unemployment, conflict, to greed and lack contentment, a lot Nigerans have migrated to other countries in search greener pastures. Since the Study is exploratory in nature, the research methodology adopted is the documentary method. The work was anchored on institutional theory. The study found out that migration issues between Nigeria and some other countries had resulted to loss of skilled and unskilled manpower to other countries, especially in the sphere of education and health. The paper concluded that international migration would continue to take place for as long as humans have needs that have to be met. The paper recommended that Nigeria as a developing country should promote sound economic development policy which would in turn discourage outflow of its citizens.Item Xenophobic Attacks in South Africa and Inter-African Relations(2018) Abubakar, Abdulrahman; Kupoluyi, Adewale; Awotunde, TaiyeItem Xenophobic attacks in South Africa and intra-African relations(Nigerian Political Science Association, South East Zone, 2018-12) Awotunde, TaiyeXenophobia is not a phenomenon that is limited or restricted to South Africa. It is prevalent in other countries like India, Pakistan and Germany. Since the 1980s, Xenophobia has become a source of concern to scholars because of its adverse effects on the people; notably Africans and indeed, Nigerians, who struggle to benefit from the available resources with South Africans. The objective of this paper is to carry out an in-depth analysis of the concept of Xenophobia; its causes such as unemployment and decaying infrastructure and how the series of attacks would impact on intra-African relations since the first case of Xenophobia was recorded in 1994, till 2017. The paper has revealed that if the attacks persist, it will result in diplomatic row, especially, between South Africa and African states. This paper was anchored on the linkage theory while the research methodology that was employed was qualitative, using mainly secondary data. This paper recommends that African states and people should depend less on South Africa and look inward by developing their economies, encourage more foreign direct investments and ensuring that lives and property of Africans are always protected, either at home or abroad.
