Cinematographic Evaluation of Ingeneous Camera Directing in the Selected Works of Kunle Afolayan
(Cognizance Journal of Multidiciplinary Studies. Zain Publications Stockholm, Sweden., 2025) Arinde, Tayo Simeon
Over the years, there has been a global evolution of hi-tech cinematic inventions. Film directors all over the world are swayed to handle the totality of their film visuals with great technical drive in a bid to ensuring that their film stories meet the digital yearnings of their audience. In spite of these yearnings for the use of hi-tech filming equipment, many directors/producers have not gotten it right and it is on this premise that this study did a cinematographic evaluation of ingenuous camera directing in the selected works of Kunle Afolayan in Anikulapo and Citation. This study employs qualitative research design, using the content analytical method and interview from which the primary data for the study are sourced Secondary data are sourced from documentaries, books, scholarly journals, and internet sources. The study finds that the director used several dark shots and over-the-shoulder angle directorial styles in Anikulapo and Citation to convey suspense. It was also found that established shots were employed by Afolayan in Anikulapo and Citation to create effective scene transitions while maintaining an ISO range exposure of 160 to 340 in the films under examination to make the visuals less contrastive. This study concludes that Anikulapo and Citation were directed with a great level of cinematographic expertise, to obtain quality framings and unique visual dimension resulting in a quintessential cinematographic quality through the use of state-of-the-Art filming equipment. The study, therefore, recommended that budding film directors in Africa should emulate this visual dynamism which can be obtained from the process of training and retraining film directors for the purpose of maximising the use of hi-technological filming equipment. Cultural interpretation and Traditional perspective in Ahmed Yerima's Akudaaya
(Journal of Ecohumanism, 2024) Arinde, Tayo Simeon
Culture remains a clear indicator of the organic identity of mankind Cultural materials are therefore one of the dominant sources from which playwrights have continue to draw. However, an attempt to dramatise certain inherent cultural practices of a people often comes with challenges, especially for a playwright who does not belong to such culture. Hence, this study examines Ahmed Yerima's Akudaaya with the view to define the cultural trajectories and traditional dispentions reflected in the play. Through textual analysis, the study analyses the selected play-text. It is revealed that Ahmed Yerima's attempt to reflect the cultural identity and traditional perspectives of the Yoruba people is manifested in the dramatisation of the symbolic representation of the king's crown; the cultural interpretation of akadaya and the dichotomy of language; cultural norm and the significant position of Iyalode; ritual aesthetics and the spirito-cosmic identity of the Yoruba people. The study concludes that Ahmed Yerima's Akudaaya remains one of the notable plays written by a Nigerian playwright which reflects the cultural identity of the akudaaya view among the Yoruba people. However, Yerima is able to achieve cultural reconstruction and initiate a challenge to create cultural consciousness through his play-text. Exploring Religion and Religiousity in Selected plays of Otun Rasheed for Sustainable Development
(Institut Universtaire Panafricain and University of Ilorin., 2018) Arinde, Tayo Simeon
This paper explores Otun Rasheed's use of drama and theatre to underscore the efficacy of religion and it's significant to the development of our society in three of his plays: The Third World war. The Garments and The Gods are still not to blame. It expounds on the religious culture in the Nigerian society, with particular attention paid to issues of functionalism, conflicts as well as religious interactions in the plays under examination. These religious issues are located within the context of the Emile Durkheim's functionalist theory of religion. The research method employed in this paper is the analysis, in which case the selected plays is analysed. It is with a view to unearthing some of the issues that are inherent in the play texts under review. In addition to this, we also interviewed the playwright who substantiated his ideological dispositions to issues of religion as he presents then in the plays being interrogated. The later method provides the synergetic tool that enables us to marry the religious issues in the plays and Otun Rasheed's religious ideology. Our findings reveal that the plays of Otun Rasheed are critical evaluation of functionalist issues on religion in Nigeria. He identifies roots of religious crisis in his plays, which is why the plays are filled with religion, culture and language His entical position on religion provides stands on the premise that religion would most likely generate social havocs that would certainly defy all basic remedies, especially if religious tenets and dogmas are swallowed without being critical of them. This study concluded that religion, in its general conception has both negative and positive impacts globally and the Nigerian society in particular; positive by instilling morality in people and negative, because it has been used to orchestrate crises in the country. Based on the above, we recommend that dramatists, playwrights, actions, directors, prodavan, and indeed all collaborators in the ans of the theatre should take turn to address religious issues in their unique ways, just as Otun Rasheed has done. Through this, drama and theatre would be used as an active medium for social re-engineering in preaching morals and social ideals. (Department of Performing Arts, University of Ilorin, Nigeria and Department of Theatre and Film Studies, University of Cape Coast, Ghana, 2022) Arinde, Tayo Simeon
Africa, from time immemorial has been the cradle of multifarious arts, most of which are enacted in performances such as drama, music, painting, dances amongst other. Amongst them is the indigenous art of bone-healing. Although fast becoming an endangered art in view of the fact that modern medical care is drifting it into extinction. Nevertheless, it is identified that abounds in the art are; therapeutic, psychological and economic benefits which was analysed in the study. However, an attempt was made to explore not only the therapeutic benefits, but the theatricality involved in the healing process. Consequently, Mohammed Wassan's art of bone-healing seems to have made both the artistic and therapeutics benefits of the art to the advantage of mankind, in a recessed economy like that of Nigeria. The study employed the descriptive and deductive methods of research complimented by the tool of participant observation and interview to draw our primary data while our secondary data are sourced from academic journals, articles, books and internet. Also, the study used the theory Shammanism to buttress the art in the healing process. The study finds that the process of bone-healing is a performative art in Africa with abounding health benefits that have eluded many national and international economies. Consequently, the study concludes that in all indigenous art practices, there are theatrical elements, bone-healing. Therefore, it is recommended that all performances; medical, engineering, science amongst other fields, the artistic quintessence should be given prominence so that the aesthetics of the art as the precursor for all accomplishments will not go into oblivion.
