Item Capacity Planning and System Utilization in the Management of Queues in Selected Banking Hall in Ilorin Metropolis(College of Management Sciences, Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Nigeria., 2012-06) Mustapha, A. M.; Aremu, M. A.; Fakokunde, T. O.Capacity planning and system utilization have become critical issues because most banks operate their facilities at a rate less than installed capacity. Experts have traced this development to deficiency in capacity planning and system utilization in the management of queues in the banking halls. The main objective of this study is to determine the relative adequacy of capacity planning and system utilization in the management of queues in the banking hall. The study utilized arrival and departure data of customers into the bank through direct observation. Inter-arrival period of 15 minutes was used. The cost function of the bank was also used to determine whether the present system can be improved upon or not. Findings revealed that there were more inflow of customers than expected at a given time interval resulting in pressure on the existing capacity. The paper recommends that management should make a contingency plan to respond to any unusual crowd that may arise during those periods when queues are noticed to be more..Item Competitiveness In Telecommunication Industry: A Need for Service Quality and Customer Satisfaction(Department of Marketing, Faculty of Management Sciences, University of Ilorin, Nigeria., 2016-06) Aremu, M. A.; Mustapha, Y. I.; Apara, M. O.; Okpara, K. K.In a greatly competitive environment, telecommunication service providers compete sternly for new customers. Over time and with the escalation competition, telecommunication industry has come to enhance their performance through delivery of quality service in order to the satisfaction of customers. The purpose of this paper is to examine how to competitiveness in Telecommunication Industry through service quality and customer satisfaction with reference from of Airtel mobile network in Ilorin metropolis. The study surveyed 197 telecom customers in Ilorin, Kwara state to determine the key influential factors that significantly influence on their perception Using the five SERVQUAL dimension. The data analyses were conducted by single linear regression with SPSS to test the set out hypothesis. The results of the statistical analysis reflected that most of the telecom customers are highly concerned about service quality of the service provider in the telecommunication industry. The study findings revealed that only empathy and assurance made by the network company have their satisfaction predictability less than 50% on the influence they have on consumer satisfaction. The study concluded that the service quality gaps indicated that though the responsiveness, tangibility and reliability of the network company is satisfactory in Ilorin metropolis, they are failing to meet the expectations of their customers on the assurance and empathy dimension. This service provider gaps must be reduced. The study recommended that it is advisable that they should improve their knowledge and skills through direct marketing. This will provide a fast and reliable service to their customers. It further recommended that service enhancement through customer orientation should be provided by the company. This will lead to better opportunity, enhance competitiveness and enable the company to gain confidence from their subscribers.Item Developing marketing strategies for the growth and survival of private schools in Ilorin(College of the Humanities, Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Nigeria., 2014) Atolagbe, A. A.; Aremu, M. A.The recent liberalization of education in the country has led to upsurge in the number of schools established by private entrepreneurs in all tiers of education. The primary and secondary sectors are the most affected. The study revealed several marketing strategies employed by schools to increase their market share. Some were conventional marketing methods while some were non-conventional. The study’s findings revealed that schools can be classified as Future, Tomorrow, Today and Yesterday schools. This was modeled along the Boston Consulting Group Matrix (BCG). The study recommended appropriate marketing strategies for each of the private schools classified under the BCG Matrix.
