    Africa, Globalization & Development: In Search for Chimerical Change?

    The world today is divided between developed and developing countries. Incidentally most of the developing ones fall within African continent where daily life is determined by poverty, corruption, and conflict. Africa has not benefitted from the economic gains of globalization for its development. One may like to ask: what went wrong in Africa? How could things have gone so badly wrong in Africa? Social conditions generally have indicated that there is failure of development in Africa even in the face of globalization. If Africa is lagging behind in terms of development there must be something wrong about Africa itself that is standing in the way of development. These and some other questions are what this paper sets to re-examine, with particular focus on the pace of development and its trend in Africa. It equally set to underscore what and how the phenomenon of globalization and development has eluded the continent. Like some other works in this area, it is observed that poverty, engendered by corruption as well as incessant conflict occasioned by poverty has been the bane of progress and by implication underdevelopment in Africa. While several policies have been idealized particularly the United Nations agencies, yet the problem of underdevelopment still remain with African. It is thus suggested that perhaps and unless African leaders take the politico-economic destiny of their states into their hands, search for development in Africa might be chimerical as the problem might continually live with them.

    CHARACTER TRAINING FOR NATIONAL VALUES: A RELIGIOUS CONSIDERATION

    Undoubtedly man today, in his globalized village stands on the edge of a precipice. He is groaning under the agony of the evil effects of corruption. His present is unpalatable and his future is unpredictable murky. Corruption has eaten up the societal fabric into its marrow. In Nigeria, corruption has become endemic. Moral degradation, embezzlement of public funds, Bribery, rape, child abuse, terrorism, kidnapping, armed robbery, ethno religious conflicts, militancy, assassination, political violence, examination malpractices, bank and online fraud and acts of perfidy at various levels to mention but a few. These have hindered economic balance and stability as well as stunted the progress and development of the nation.(Ahmed 2006) However, many crusade have been wages to no avail. Laws and sanctions have been invoked to no effect. It is in this light that a Religion framework in arresting this quagmire of corruption has become indispensable. As a divine systems devoid of human manipulation, it will no doubt reduce the problem to the barest minimum and solve it to a large extent.(Ahmed 2006) In another word, if character training is been given credence from the religious perspective, all these will bring about a U-turn and social change in the Nigerian nation, the African continent and the world as a whole, thereby leading to sustainable socio-economic.     ظهرت أهمية الترجمة بوصفها عاملا مهما في استمرار الحياة وازدهارها منذ زمن بعيد، وقد اتخذها كثير من العلماء والباحثين معيارا عند المقارنة بين الحضارات والشعوب المختلفة بحيث يقاس مدى رقيها بمقدار ما أحرزته من التقدم في هذا المجال. ونشاط الترجمة ذو طبيعة متعددة الأوجه، أهمها كونها مستخدمة لتكون وسيلة مهمة في عملية الاتصال والتبادل الثقافي؛ إذ لا تستطيع أية أمة أن تفي بحاجتها وحدها دون أن تستعين بغيرها، حيث إن التقدم والتطور لا يمكن إلا من خلال الأخذ والعطاء، وهذا لا يتحقق إلا من خلال الترجمة. فالحضارة الإسلامية مثلا تقدمت وتطورت بعدما شجّع الخلفاء والأمراء على الترجمة ونقل العلوم والمعارف في شتى المجالات من اللغات المختلفة إلى اللغة العربية. ومن خير الأمثلة على ذلك الترجمة من الحضارة الفارسية.

    MANFALUTI’S ODE ON PAUL AND VIRGINIA: TRANSLATION AND COMMENTS

    The Egyptian educational contact with Europe in the 19th century yielded good results, and the mission led by Tahtawi to acquire modern knowledge in France gave his forty-man team the ample opportunity to see French life; it also enabled them to have precise observations of the modern world as well as the greatest and most flourishing society of their day. Tahtawi’s book published shortly after his return from France entitled: Takhlis al-Ibriz fi talkhis Bariz where he described his stay in Paris, the manners and customs of the French, their cleanliness, love of work and disapproval of laziness, their intellectual curiosity and social morality as good qualities that endeared them to the hearts of younger Egyptian writers and created in them the curiosity to know more about the French, their life and literature. They were interested in reading the works of Voltaire, Condillac, Rousseau, Hugo, Musset, La Fontaine and a host of other French writers. Though, Manfaluti did not see France during his lifetime, but he admired Paul et Virginie a novel published by Bernardin de Saint-Pierre in 1788 which he adapted and translated into Arabic as: Al- Fadilah (The Virtue) in 1923 with the uncertainty whether he learned French. The aim of this paper is to translate and make comments on the Manfaluti’s ode on Paul and Virginia, the symbols of love, loyalty and sacrifice. They are very good friend since birth, who fell in love and remain as lovers till the end of their lives. The ode has 39 verses ending with hamzah and composed in meter of Ramal. This paper consists of 1, Introduction 2, Manfaluti and Bernardin 3, Paul and Virginia 4, Translation and Comment 5, Conclusion.

    لقد شهدت دولة نيجيريا تطوّرات حديثة من النواحي المختلفة وفنون شتى، من تلك المجالات فنّ الترجمة وعلم الترجمة وإن كانت إسهاماتهم أبرز في فنّ الترجمة دون الآخر، حيث تصدّى لها علماء أكفاء ليظهروا للعالم ما تحمل الدولة النيجيرية من العادات والثقافات الطيبة والمحاسن من الأخلاق والتقاليد، فمنهم من نحى نحو الترجمة العلمية والآخرون نحو الترجمة الأدبية، فتنقسم الترجمة في نيجيريا إلى المحورين التاليين؛ الترجمة من اللغة المحليّة إلى الإنجليزية وإلى العربية، ومن اللغتين المذكورتين إلى إحدى اللغات المحليّة، وستحاول الورقة إلقاء الضوء وإبراز مجهودات ترجمية الدكتور مشهود محمود جمبا، وذلك خلال ترجمته لعمل أدبي من روائع الأدب اليورباوي الصادر من قبل الراحل دي. أو. فاغنوا بعنوان: "الصياد الجريء في غابة العفاريت" لنرى مدى توفيقه في عملية الترجمة، وتطبيق بعض أساليب الترجمة الموضعة قبل فيني وداربلنيه على العمل المترجم.

    الشيخ الشبلي محمد ألبي الأوفاوي: حياته وشعره

    إن العلماء الذين وقعوا في الفوج الأول من الطبقة الثانية من حيث الترتيب والدرجات لعلماء أوفا, هم الذين غرسوا أشجار العلم الشرعي وطهارة القلوب بالتصوف الإسلامي وسيلة الى تقدم دين الإسلام, ونور يستضيئ به المسلمون في حياتهم الدينية وأكبوا على التعليم المسلمين على أمور دينهم الإسلامي, يدرسونهم كتبا متنوًعة من كتب المبادئ الإسلامية, ككتب الطهارة والعبادة, وغضوا أبصارهم عما سواها من تعليم قواعد اللغة العربية وقرض الأشعار العربية وتدرُج تعليم الدين الإسلامي مما كان عليه في الطبقة الأولى. ولم نر من يقوم بقرض الشعر العربي إلاَ عدد قليل جدَا. وأما الشيخ الراحل الشبلي بن محمد ألابي من القلائل الذين ابرزوا بما لا بأس به من الإنتاج الأدبي شعرا ونثرا. فهذا البحث بين ايدينا يحاول إلقاء الضوء على حياة الشيخ وقصيدته "تحفة الألباب ودمية الألعاب في ردعة النهاب". وسيتناول البحث النقاط التالية: • ميلاد الشيخ الشبلي • منزلته • علمه وإنتاجه الأدبية • عرض قصيدته ودراسته دراسة تحليلية أدبية.

    إسهامات الشَيخ زكريا تاج المؤمنين في نشر الدعوة الإسلامية والثقافة العربية عبر تلاميذه في مدينة أوفا

    التعليم العربي جزء لا يتجزأ من حياة الإلوريين، فهو تراثهم النفيس الذي يدافعون عنه بأي ثمن. وقد نشروا التعليم العربي والإسلامي في ربوع إمارة إلورن وكافة بلاد يوربا وخارجها حتى لا تكاد تجد اليوم عالما بارزا في بلاد يوربا إلاَ وقد أخذ عنهم مباشرة أو أخذ عن تلاميذهم أو تلاميذ تلاميذهم .ولا غرو إذ خلع يوربا على مدينة إلورن ألقابا ونعوتا تشريفية مختلفة تقديرا لمكانتها العلمية السامية التي يتمتع بها أهلها ،ومن أشهر الألقاب قولهم:"إلورن بلد العلماء Ilorin Ilu Afa" وبهذا، وكان الشيخ زكريا تاج المؤمنين من عباقرة العلماء وأعاجيبهم الذين كرَم الله بهم مدينة إلورن وبلاد يوربا بوجه عام. وعلى هذا، يتناول هذا البحث إسهامات الشيخ تاج المؤمنين في نشر الدعوة الإسلامية والثقافة العربية في مدينة أوفا بواسطة تلاميذ تلاميذه وأبناء تلاميذ تلاميذه الذين لم يزالوا يبذلون كل غال ورخيص لتقدُم الإسلام واللغة العربية في عدَة مجالات علمية إسلامية. ولتحقيق هذا الغرض قسم البحث إلى ثلاثة أقسام من دون المقدمة والخاتمة . يتناول القسم الأول ترجمة حياة الشيخ زكرَيا والقسم الثاني التاريخ الوجيز عن مدينة أوفا وعلاقة أوفا مع إلورن والقسم الثالث يتناول إسهامات تلاميذ تلاميذ الشيخ في مجالات مختارة في تطوير الدعوة الإسلامية والثقافة العربية في مدينة أوفا

    يعتبر د. كمال الدين علي المبارك همزة الوصل بين السلف الصالح والخلف من علماء مدينة أوفا وهو من اكثر علماء أوفا ثقافة لكونه أول حامل شهادة دكتوراه في اللغة العربية بين أبناء أوفا وهو في فوج الثالث من الطبقة الثانية من حيث الترتيب والدرجات لعلماء مدينة أوفا. وهو من أوائل أصحاب الدواوين, وأولئك الأفذاذ الذين تفخر يهم مدينة أوفا في حقل اللغة العربية وآدابها في وقتنا الحاضر. وديوانه "باقة الأزهار فيما جاد به الفكر من الأشعار" لا يزال مخطوطة لم تر نور الطباعة بعد, والغرض من هذه المقالة دراسة تحليلية لقصيدة التهنئة الواردة في قصيدته المذكورة.

    تهدف هذه الورقة إلى تسليط الضوء حول نبذة من أعمال فاغنوا عن طريق الترجمة التي هي وسيلة نقل الثّقافة وحضارات أمم العالم وعاداتها وتقاليدها من لغة إلى لغة أخرى, وذلك لتظهر بعض ما في إنتاجاته من الآداب ومكارم الأخلاق وما يتعلق بالخصائص الفنية, وبهذا تتمحور الورقة حول النقاط التالية: ترجمة النصوص, الدراسات الفنية (الحبكة), الخصائص الفنية والبلاغة, الألفاظ والأساليب الأدبية, العنصر التعليمي, الصدق والوفاء بالعهد, الجلد والثبات, ترك الأخلاق الرذيلة.

    كَيفَ تُدِيرُ حَيَاتَكَ

    خطر ببال الْمُترجِمَين أن يقوما بترجمة هذا الكتاب القيِّمِ إلى اللغة العربية، وهو كتاب يحتوي على ثمارٍ يانعةٍ لتأملات المؤلِّف في السلوك الإنسانيِّ، قدّمها على شكل توصيات عن كيفيَّة إدارة الحياة بحكمةٍ وذكاءٍ. وقد تناول الكاتب هذا الكتاب من خلال المقدمة يعقُبها تسعة عشر فصلاً، ثم الخاتمة. والكتاب رغم قصر حجمه يضُمُّ بين دُفَّتَيْه أفكارًا ذهبيّةً تستحق العناية والتنويه. ولهذا ارتأينا -بعد قراءتنا للكتاب- أن نُسهم في نشر هذه الأفكار وتعميم فوائدها، وذلك من خلال نقل الكتاب إلى اللغة العربية. وقد كان الكتاب في الأصل مكتوبًا باللغة الإسبانيَّة، لكن تمّ نقله إلى لغات أخرى منها اللغة الإنجليزية. ونحن قد اعتمدنا في هذه الترجمة على النسخة الإنجليزية.
