Item Ancestral Veneration in African Religion and an African Indigenous Church: A Focus on Celestial Church of Christ(Deocraft Communications, 2006-06) Alamu, A. G.Item An Appraisal of the Role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) In Propagation of Religious Messages in Nigeria(The Faculty of Humanities, University of Indonesia, 2019) Alamu, A. G.It is heart-warming to assert that 21st century has witnessed unprecedented breakthroughs in information and communication technology. Thus, this astronomical breakthrough has brought unhindered privileges and accessibilities to virtually all the countries where information technology is entrenched. Evidently, technology has linked societies with global information and it makes it possible for capital to shift instantly across borders. Thus, this technological engagement has reduced the world to one „global village‟. Equally, religion is not indifferent to this global advancement. Within the province of religion, information and communication technology has graciously and tremendously helped to reduce religious messages to a sizeable level whereby human beings do not need to travel many kilometres and distances to deliver religious messages. In the same vein, this information and communication technology has also created a gamut of religious problems like human indignity, un-chastity, terrorism and immorality. Again, it has also brought many miseries at its wake. The result is the emergence of a hedonistic culture, sensuality and promiscuity. This paper adopted historical and analytical approach. However, the paper concludes by advocating that efforts should be made to equally promote morality, spirituality and human development.Item The Beauty and the Beast of the sale of Indulgences: Implications for Contemporary Church in Nigeria(Department of Religion and African Culture, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria, 2018-06) Alamu, A. G.Item The Concept of Arialusi in Edo Religion(The Department of Religions, University of Ilorin., 2013) Alamu, A. G.The existential experience of Arialusi to the people of Edo is a priori real and a minute-to-minute phenomenon in their consciousness. To the Edo, metaphysical issues are attempts to understand the universe by means of logical investigation of reality rather than an empirical inquiry based on sensory evidence. Thus, the metaphysical issue as evident in Arialusi is a law of retribution and a hidden force, when activated by human conduct and external stimulus, produces corresponding effects either good or bad, fortune or misfortune, happiness or suffering. It is also a cosmic law of justice, which holds that one’s life is determined by the performance in the previous life. Thus, this paper adopted religio-cosmological and mythicoexegetical methods of investigating Arialusi as having the propensity for religious, philosophical and sociological implications. It is revealed that Arialusi and reincarnation have simultaneous togetherness, and their diverse strength takes full advantage of spiritual association and easily recreates human awareness as the ritual performance is ethno-centric in nature. This paper therefore postulates that Arialusi is a never-ending process of life and lies in the acceptance of the need for a corrective process of experimentation with our own experience, and this presupposes our readiness to admit openly our errors and to also learn from them. To this end, Arialusi is not deterministic as it is binding upon the recalcitrant, but it is an eternal and immutable law of nature. It has its own reward, so also it has its seat in the soul of every human being.Item The Concept of Karma in Hinduism and Christianity: An Appraisal(The Association for Theological Education in South East Asia, Central Philippine University, 2009) Alamu, A. G.Item The Culture of the Soul in Edo Religion: A Bioethical Appraisal(Department of Religious Studies, Babcock University, Illisan-Remo, 2011) Alamu, A. G.Item Democratization and Corruption in a Religious Society: The Nigerian Experience(Asian School of Management and Technology, Boca Roten, USA, 2011) Alamu, A. G.The late 20th century till date has greatly witnessed paradigm shift in democratisation crusade around African continents where Nigeria belongs. This becomes significant and crucial in order to perpetually keep the military cabals in the barrack as result of the incessant problems of corruption, religious violence, instability, insecurity and among others. Thus, stable democracy becomes the only solution to this perennial political angst in Nigeria. Therefore, this paper seeks to postulate that democracy should be allowed to grow and build domestic consensus, reassert and readdress corporate participation and as well assume new roles indispensable for keeping and extending the life span of democracy and to immune it against military regime since Nigerians are religious in all things. To this end, democratisation is a democratic institution aimed at furthering political conscientization processes propelled by political regimes and continuously assume new roles in keeping with the exigencies of times and the political developments around them. This would make democratisation the only game in town.Item Edo Eschatology and the Scientific Cosmos(Local Society Initiative (LSI) and the Nigerian Association for the Study and Teaching of Religion and Natural Sciences (NASTRENS), University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria, 2006) Alamu, A. G.Item Fundamental Human Rights in African Religion: A Critique(Department of Religion and Peace Studies, Lagos State University, Ojo, 2015-06) Alamu, A. G.The 21st century humans are in chains, clamouring for freedom. Round about us are clear restrictions and violations of human rights. In general, human rights are fundamental to the African values. Human rights in traditional African religion are couched in human dignity as inveterate in fundamental values cherished by the society. Thus, all these human values in African society are regarded as African humanism. In spite of this African humanism, restrictions, clauses, violations of human rights and individuality are the springboard. Therefore, this paper attempts to look at African humanism as human rights, using historical, socio-cultural, religious and moral approaches to examine and critique fundamental human rights in African religion. Therefore, the paper postulates that African humanism is urgently needed for the restoration of African civility, socialism, solidarity, communitarianism, independence, self-actualization, self-respect, freedom, egalitarianism, democratic and liberal life. This traditional African humanism therefore has much to contribute to human development.Item Fundamentalism from Intra and Inter-religious Perspectives in Nigeria: A Sociological Quest for Solution(Department of History and International Relations, Veritas University, Abuja, 2015-07) Alamu, A. G.Fundamentalism is thus the product of the modernising process, it is anti-modernist. Fundamentalism is originally coined by its supporters to describe a specific tonality of theological beliefs as well as religious connotation indicating straight-jacketed attachments to a set of irreducible beliefs. Meanwhile, these inaccurate, insufficient and irrational stereotypes have brought doctrinal misunderstanding within conservative or liberal Christians or Muslims as well as religious clashes between Muslims and Christians based on their fundamental principles and beliefs. As a result, thousands of lives and billions worth of property have been lost to these unprecedented crises in the past five decades. This paper, therefore, adopts historical, comparative and systematic approach leading to the fact that the ever-with-us religious crisis can be surmounted when all and sundry rediscovers separate religious values, ancient language of the holy writs, spiritual cultures and mutual respect of various traditions, which are embedded in all religions. Again, the paper postulates that Comtean social creed of love is the principle, order is the basis and progress is the end would suffice. The paper, therefore, concludes that this deeper reality would create a solid base for a humane and germane Nigerian society that acts just by respecting individual difference.Item Globalization and its Effects on Christianity(University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria, 2002) Alamu, A.
