The most prominent of the problems faced by the nation today is the Boko Haram insurgency. Boko Haram is a terrorist group which strongly perceive western education as forbidden. They then began the killings of who ever have received western education. They kidnap mostly, women and girls of childbearing age. The gruesome attacks by Boko Haram insurgents on women cannot be overemphasized. Girls are been abducted and used as suicide bombers while others are brutally raped and impregnated. Some of these women after being rescued result to abortion of the unwanted pregnancies while others see it as their fate and may decide to have the babies. This gave rise to series of reproductive health problems among the internally displaced persons (women) especially those living in the internally displaced camps. Several conditions in their new abode have made them prone to HIV, STIs, abortion, domestic violence, infertility and other reproductive health challenges. Effective reproductive health care is advocated for these womenItem Health implications of socio-cultural practices among residents of Ilorin Metropolis(Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria, 2016-02) Akorede, Seun Nurudeen; Abdulrasaq, Qazeem Onaolapo; Raji, Ahmad Omotayo; Jamiu, Oluwatosin Qudus; Alebiosu, Emmanuel OlorunlekeItem Implementation of Physical and Health Education Curriculum towards Achieving Optimal Health Status among Secondary School Teachers in Ilorin Metropolis(Department of Human Kinetics Education, University of Ilorin,Ilorin,Nigeria, 2015) Ibraheem, Tajudeen Olanrewaju; Ologele, Ibrahim; Abdulrasaq, Qazeem Onaolapo; Akorede, Seun NurudeenAbstract This study investigated the implementation of physical and health education curriculum towards achieving optimal health status among secondary school teachers in Ilorin metropolis. The study examined whether methods of curriculum implementations among others have relationship in achieving optimal health status among secondary school teachers in Ilorin metropolis. Descriptive research design of survey type was employed for this study. Population of the study comprised of all secondary school teachers in Ilorin metropolis. Purposive and simple random sampling techniques were used for the study. A researcher structured questionnaire was used to collect data for the study. Test-retest method was used to establish the reliability of the instrument using Pearson Product Moment Correlation, coefficient of 0.75r was obtained. Inferential statistics of Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 alpha level. The findings of the study revealed that method of curriculum implementation has significant relationship in achieving optimal health status calculated (r) value (0.231) > critical value (0.117); experience of physical and health education teachers also has significant relationship in achieving optimal health status calculated (r) value (0.134) > critical value (0.117). It was concluded that poor implementation of physical and health education curriculum have significant influence in achieving optimal health status among secondary school teachers in Ilorin metropolis. Therefore, it was recommended amongst others that the approaches/ methods adopted for curriculum implementation should be situational and adequate so as to achieve optimal health status among secondary school teachers in Ilorin metropolis.Item Implementation of Physical and Health Education Curriculum towards Achieving Optimal Health Status Among Secondary School Teachers in Ilorin Metropolis(Department of Human Kinetics Education, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria, 2015) Ibraheem, Tajudeen Olanrewaju; Ologele, Ibrahim; Abdulrasaq, Qazeem Onaolapo; Akorede, Seun NurudeenItem lifestyle as correlates of sexually transmitted infections among teenagers of secondary school in Olorunda Local Government of Osun State(Department of Human Kinetics and Sports Science,,University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria, 2017-10) Akorede, Seun Nurudeen; Ologele, Ibrahim; Enyikwola, R. O.; Nofiu, O. D.Abstract This study investigated lifestyle as a correlate of sexually transmitted diseases among teenagers in secondary schools with the purpose of studying the relationship between early sexual activities and sexually transmitted diseases and as well as knowing the relationship between substance use and sexually transmitted diseases among secondary school student in Olorunda Local Government Area of Osun State. The study was a descriptive research of survey type which covers population of all secondary school students in Olorunda Local Government Area of Osun State. Through stratified and simple random sampling technique, a sample of 200 respondents was selected. Questionnaire was used as the instrument of data collection. A test-re-test was conducted and reliability coefficient (r) of 0.89 was obtained. Data collected was analyzed with inferential statistics involving Pearson Product Moment Correlation at 0.05 level of significance. The study concluded that there is significant relationship between early sexual activities and sexually transmitted diseases among secondary school student in Olorunda since calculated r-value of .308 is greater than critical r of 0.116 at degree of freedom of 198 at 0.05 level of significance and there is significant relationship between substance abuse and sexually transmitted diseases among teenagers in secondary schools in Olorunda since calculated r-value of .497 is greater than critical-r of 0.116 at degree of freedom of 198 at 0.05 level of significance. It is therefore necessary that schools have a role to play in facilitating the access of young people to necessary reproductive health services so that student may bridge knowledge and attitude with action against early sexual activities and student should be educated on the health implication of substance used in order to avoid contraction of sexually transmitted diseases.Item Perceived influence of drainage and waterways dumping on the environment among the people of Ilorin SOuth Local Government Area(Department of Health Promotion and Environmental Health Education, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria, 2015) Abdulrasaq, Qazeem Onaolapo; Jidda, Kafayah Adeola; Akorede, Seun NurudeenItem Waste Disposal Management as correlate of Environmental Problems in Ilorin metropolis(Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, Nigeria, 2015-06) Abdulrasaq, Qazeem Onaolapo; Akorede, Seun Nurudeen; Jidda, Kafaya Adeola; Ologele, IbrahimAbstract The study examined waste disposal management as correlate of environmental problems in Ilorin metropolis. It examined the influence of waste burning on air quality; dumping of waste in drainage on flooding; and open dumping on water pollution. Descriptive research design was employed for the study. Sample of 400 heads of households were selected using multistage sampling techniques of simple random and purposive sampling techniques. A researcher developed questionnaire titled “Questionnaire on Waste Disposal Management and Environmental Problems”. (QWDMEP) was used. The reliability of the questionnaire was tested using Spearman Brown Rank Order which yielded a correlation coefficient of 0.75. three hypotheses were tested at .05 alpha level of significance. Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to test the data collected for the study. The findings revealed that: i. waste burning as a waste disposal strategy has significant influence on the quality of air in Ilorin metropolis [Calc. r-value = 0.428 ≥ Crit. r-value = 0.197]; ii. dumping of waste as a waste disposal strategy has significant influence on flooding in Ilorin metropolis [Calc. r-value = 0.531 ≥ Crit. r-value = 0.197]; and iii. open dumping as a waste disposal strategy has significant influence on water pollution in Ilorin metropolis [Calc. r-value = 0.631 ≥ Crit. r-value = 0.197]. It was concluded that burning of waste, dumping of waste in drainages and open dumping instigate flooding, pollution of air and water in Ilorin metropolis. It was recommended that public burning of waste as a waste disposal strategy should be discouraged; the dumping of waste in drainages and water bodies should be avoided; and open dumping of waste should be properly coordinated and monitored.Item Waste disposal management as correlate of environmental problems in Ilorin Metropolis(Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria, 2015-06) Abdulrasaq, Qazeem Onaolapo; Akorede, Seun Nurudeen; Jidda, Kafayah Adeola; Ologele, Ibrahim
