    Awareness and Disposition of Nigerian Police to Fundamental Human Rights and its Implications for the Protection of Nigerian Citizens

    Human rights which pays credence to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights aims at protecting the rights of every individual regardless of age, race, religion and sex. Several indices today point to the fact that these rights are being violated especially by the Nigerian Police. This study therefore investigated the awareness and disposition of the Nigerian Police to human rights protection of Nigerian citizens. Descriptive survey research method was employed for the study. The sample size of 120 Police men and women were selected through simple random sampling technique. 20 Police officers were selected each from divisions A-F in Ilorin. An instrument tagged “Questionnaire on Awareness and Disposition of Nigerian Police to Human Rights Protection of Nigerian Citizens (QDNPHRPNC)” was used. Findings of the study reveals that majority of the police are aware of human rights issues while they have a bad attitude to it. Qualification influenced their disposition to human rights protection of citizens while working experience did not influence their disposition to it. Based on the findings, it was recommended that there is the need to orientate and re-orientate the police on civic learning especially; human rights protection of citizens; textual materials on human rights should be published and made available to police officers; human rights commissions should also intensify their efforts in checkmating the excessiveness of police on human rights protection of citizens.     INFLUENCE OF FAMILY TYPES ON DEVIANT BEHAVIOUR OF IN-SCHOOLADOLESCENTS IN IBADAN NORTH, OYO STATE

    Family is known as the smallest units in the society and it is the first agent of socialization of the child. Several studies have been conducted on family types and academic performance. The main rationale of this study is to examine the influence of family types on deviant behaviours of in- school adolescent in Ibadan North, Oyo state. This study adopted a descriptive survey design. The sample for this study was 160 upper basic school students in four selected schools in Ibadan North. Adopted questionnaire was used for data collection. The data collected was analyzed using mean, percentage, chi square and t-test at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study showed that, there was a significant influence of family types on deviant behaviour of in-school adolescents in Ibadan North, Oyo State. Based on the findings, it was recommended that, Parents should be made aware of the extent to which problems at home and family types can influence the behaviour of their children.

    Moral education in the Nigerian school setting: an antidote for corruption

    In Nigeria, corruption has become a great impediment for the much expected dividends of democracy in the midst of many available natural and human resources. Every nation’s educational system is to help it overcome her peculiar problems. Nigeria’s educational system is supposed to help overcome the problem of corruption. The study therefore examined moral education in Nigerian schools as an antidote for corruption. The study explains the concepts, theories and needs for moral education as an effective way for reducing corruption in the society. It was however concluded that with the integration of moral education in Nigerian schools, the quality of the certificates acquired will be enhanced and high integrity will be accorded to the society by the members. The paper however suggested strategies for integrating moral eduction into Nigerian schools in the interest of reducing corrupt practices. The effective integration of moral education will surely accord high integrity for the learners, the schools, the certificates and the society in general.
