Nigeria, with her huge endowed natural and human resources is not spared. The country also faces a looming food security crisis with a growing population that is increasingly dependent on imported foods. The once dominant subsistence oriented farm economy is at risk of gradual marginalisation. Insecure land tenure, scarcity of funds and credit, labour scarcity despite overall high unemployment and stagnant technology have crippled its further development. Studies of food security and the right to food both offer important starting points in tackling the production, access and consumption of food; they do not provide routes for challenging and changing the gender-inequitable food systems. This study, therefore, examined Food sovereignty and how it could enhance the role of women in food security in Nigeria. The diffusion theory provides the conceptual framework for this study. The design is descriptive in nature and a secondary source was used to elicit information for the study. Nigeria's elections may allude to a fallacy based on the assumption that it has always been a huge business. Political parties spend a lot of money on exposure, coordination, and even vote-buying; favours and blessings are given, and political help is given in kind, making Nigeria's political decision a "cash and carry" issue. The elite political conduct determines the essence and destiny of national politics. This could be because politics in Nigeria is constructed as a 'winner takes all' game rather than nation-building. Ideology is an important feature of politics, not only because it provides a theoretical foundation for a general view of cultures, but also because it serves as an extraordinary tool for arbitration, self-identification, universal mobilization, and legitimacy. As a result, it may be correct to assert that a political party's ideological stance should be the first and most important instrument in an ideal situation. In Nigeria, ethnicity and faith have been divisive and largely unhelpful in the pursuit of democratic consolidation. As a result, the goal of this research is to look into Nigerian elections as both an enterprise and a fallacy. Through the use of secondary data collection techniques, this study answers the following questions: Is there a link between elections and political ideology? Is Nigeria's electoral process a success? This approach will be founded on a substantial body of elite theory-related literature and empirical applications that seek to characterize and explain power dynamics in contemporary society.Item Probability of Transiting from a Casual to a Permanent Work Arrangement(African Scholar Publications & Research International, 2021-06) Ake Modupe; Ake Susan; asak Bamidele; Ogunlade Peter; Asamu Festus5; Oye Olubukoye; Ganiu Rasaq OmokejiEducation is one important factor that impacts the chances of consolidating the employment relationship, with profoundly educated workers, those with a college degree, having more chances, ceteris paribus, to transit to a permanent job than those with lower levels of education. Similarly, both the occupation of the worker and the economic activity of the business play a job in deciding the transition from one sort of employment to another. Accordingly, occupations in development and agriculture offer casual workers fewer chances of transition, what may be explained by the more seasonal character of these activities in comparison to industry and services. Studies have revealed how workers in nonqualified occupations have the most reduced probability of getting utilized on a permanent basis. Based on this argument, therefore, this study examines the probability of transiting from a casual to a permanent work arrangement and utilized equity theory as a theoretical framework.Item Re-Appraising Women to Women Discrimination towards Attaining Gender Equality(International Conference on Science Engineering And Business For sustainable Development Goals, 2023) Anne Omotayo Alaiyemola; Olushola Akanmode; Oluwakemi Iwelumor; Ake ModupeAbstract-Gender critics have deployed patriarchy as the major source of the challenges faced by women in Nigeria. This perception has only narrowed gender discourse to male chauvinism. There is therefore an urgent need to interrogate patriarchy alongside other challenges encountered by women in Nigeria. The notion of gender bias by men against women is not new and men are usually the main perpetrator while often not considering the existence of the situation the other way round. This study posits that challenges of women raging from discrimination, widowhood rites, polygamy, inheritance rights, divorce,to almost all other areas of life are directly or indirectly also caused by other women. It is already a challenging world with men holding sway in virtually all fields of human endeavours and women do not have to make things even more challengingfor one another. The objectives of the study were to locate the challenges encountered by women by their contemporaries in selected literary texts and society and proffer ways to confront and overcome these challenges. The study recommends love, unity, support, and collaboration which engender peaceful co-existence and social emancipation among women and are also necessary for a balanced society and the sustainable development of the nation.Item TRENDS IN ELECTORAL VIOLENCE IN NIGERIA(Journal of Social Sciences and Public Policy,, 2019) Olowojolu Olakunle; Rasak Bamidele; Ake Modupe; Ogundele Oluwaseun; Afolayan Magdaleneince the Independence era, elections in Nigeria have been characterized by high scale of electoral malpractices, money politics, electoral violence and the use of ethno-religious divide in order to influence the voting patterns of the electorates. Electoral violence is one of the strategies employed by Nigerian politicians during electioneering period. Desperate and power drunk politicians often sponsor unemployed youths and stark illiterates to carry out assaults on their perceived political opponents with a view to manipulating election results to their own advantage. This paper shall make an in depth analysis of electoral violence in Nigeria with particular focus on the fourth republic.Item WOMEN AND POLITICAL MARGINALIZATION IN NIGERIA(Cenresin Publications, 2019) Ake Modupe; Rasak Bamidele; Olowojolu Olakunle; Oye Olubukoye; Ake SusanAbstract; The word marginalization is a social process of becoming or being relegated to the fringe of society. Marginalization at the individual level results in an individual’s exclusion from meaningful participation in society. An example of marginalization at the community level is the marginalization of women. Women are excluded from the labour force and their work in the home is not economically valued and compensated. Feminists’ theorists argued that women should equally participate in the labour force, both in the public and private sectors. Today, it is argued that women are still marginalized from executive positions and continue to earn less than men at upper management cadres. In this study, the concept of marginalization and women political participation is critically examined. It also examines the steps and procedures being followed in order to encourage women to participate in politics during the last democratic dispensation of the Jonathan administration; for example, the Women for Change Initiative and the Women Empowerment Programme. The study examines the problems faced by women during elections in Nigeria due to violence; harassment and electoral malpractices and the level of performance of various women elected into various offices.
