Item Perceived Factors Influencing Substance Abuse among Commercial Drivers in Iorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State(Department of Educational Foundation, Federal University Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State, Nigeria, 2019) Ajayi, Ayodotun Edward; Ayodele, Ebenezer Opeyemi; Oguntunji, Isaac Opeyemi; Abdulrasaq, Qazeem Onaolapo; Usman, Mohammed DanlamiThis study was carried out to investigate the perceived factors influencing substance abuse among commercial drivers in Ilorin South LGA of Kwara State. The purpose of the study was to investigate whether peer pressure and availability of substances are perceived factor influencing substance abuse (ii) determine whether is a perceived factor influencing substance abuse among commercial drivers in Ilorin South LGA. The descriptive research design of the survey type was adopted for the study. Multi-stage sampling technique consisting of purposive, stratified and simple random sampling techniques were used to select a sample size of three hundred and twenty two (322) respondents from Ilorin South LGA. A researcher-designed questionnaire validated by three (3) experts from the Department of Health Promotion and Environmental Health Education, University of Ilorin, Nigeria was used for the data collection. A reliability coefficient (r) of 0.91was obtained through split-half method. Data collection was conducted by the researchers. Inferential statistics of Chi-square (χ2) was used to test the postulated null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance, using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 20.0. The findings of the study showed that peer pressure is significantly perceived as a factor influencing substance abuse among commercial drivers. The study recommended the strengthening of Government and Non-Government agencies in provision of health education. Also the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency should rise to their duty of monitoring motor parks and santionaing of drug peddlers.Item Waste Managers’ Perceived Strategies to Curtail Indiscriminate Disposal of Waste among Traders in Kwara State(Department of Human Kinetics and Health Education, Faculty of Education, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, 2019-10) Abdulrasaq, Qazeem Onaolapo; Alebiosu, Emmanuel Olorunleke; Ajayi, Ayodotun Edward; Ibrahim, Steven Itopa; Adewale, Olamiposi MadeboWaste management is a very important aspect of human life that needs adequate monitoring. Failure to make adequate provisions for waste management could lead to the outbreak of diseases, affect the aesthetics of the environment and cause more damage to the environment. This study seeks to address strategies to curtail indiscriminate disposal of waste from the perception of waste managers. The population of the study consists of all the waste managers (2,000) in Kwara State. Systematic sampling technique was adopted in selecting 10% (200) of all the waste managers which represented the sample size for the study. A researcher designed instrument which was validated and tested for reliability was used to gather information from the selected waste managers in Kwara State. The instruments were sorted, coded and analyzed using descriptive statistics of frequency counts and simple percentages. The results revealed that waste managers agreed that strategies to curtail indiscriminate disposal among others include health education of the general public[192(96%)]; provision of waste disposal nylons [194(97%)], procurement of more waste collection equipments [197(98.5%)] and employment of more social workers [191(95.5%)]. The study concluded that strategies to curtail indiscriminate disposal includes health education, provision of waste packaging nylons among others. It was therefore recommended that market traders should be health educated on the health implications of the adoption of poor waste disposal methods, waste packaging nylons should be made available at very affordable price among others.
