Availability,Accessibity and Frequency of Use of ICT tools by Health Professionals in Ilorim Metropolis in Kwara State
(Department of Computer Science, Covenant University, Otta,Sango,Ogun State., 2014-06) Afolayan, Oluyinka Titilope
This research explores the availability, accessibility and the extent of ICT usage by health professionals in Ilorin metropolis. Data was collected using a sample size of 174 health service providers in 34 public and private hospitals by means of a structured questionnaire. Findings from this study indicate that the ICTs that were commonly available and used by the health professionals are the older ICTs. These include TV set, DSTV, photocopiers, fax machines, and convergent technologies like mobile phones and computers. Although, Internet driven facilities like video-conferencing, teleconferencing, web discussion forums and email among others, were not readily available to the health professionals, a comparative analysis reveals that there was superior availability and use of computers, projectors, e-mails and Internet by health professionals in private hospitals than those in public hospitals. This is as a result of the financial implications of procurement and installation of these facilities. Interestingly, the level of awareness of users on the numerous benefits of ICTs on their job and productivity is quite impressive. It is therefore, concluded that hospitals’ regulatory agencies should collaborate with International agencies such as World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Organization (UNO) and the European Union, among others, to aid in the successful implementation and funding for the procurement of sophisticated ICTs to facilitate the dissemination of up to date health information to public and private hospitals.

E-voting in Nigeria: Case Study of the University of Ilorin Students' Union Voting Model
(Covenant University Press, Sango Ota, Nigeria, 2016) Afolayan, Oluyinka Titilope
Key stakeholders in the political space have always yearned for credible elections in Nigeria. Against this backdrop, many have suggested the adoption of e-voting as a panacea to curbing electoral fraud that has since achieved a quotidian status in Nigeria. This paper presents an assessment of the University of Ilorin students’ unions election of 2014 where the e-voting system (SUEVS), designed and implemented by Computer Services and Information Technology Centre, University of Ilorin (COMSIT), was deployed. Findings indicated that students’ union’s e-voting system; a web based driven system connected to the school’s portal, provided different accessibility levels for voters and aspirants. It also allowed for rapid processing of election results, reduced the risk of human and mechanical errors and eliminated multiple registrations among others. However, despite these credible advantages, the e- voting system presented some pitfalls mostly in the areas of security and voter education. This paper concludes by emphasizing the necessity of e- voting as panacea to electoral fraud in Nigeria. With the University of Ilorin student union’s election e-voting model, Nigeria can adopt the e-voting system for its future elections if the recommendations identified in this paper are addressed.

A Framwork for Action to improve Tacit Knowledge Sharing in Nigeria's higher Education Institutions
(African Regional Center for information Science, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, 2020-02) Afolayan, Oluyinka Titilope
Knowledge creation, sharing and use for research, teaching, learning and societal interventions is what Higher Education Institutions (HEI) are about across the world. However, HEI usually focus mostly on the production, publishing and use of explicit knowledge products, and often sub-optimally on the sharing and use of tacit knowledge. In view of this, this paper explored the role of tacit knowledge sharing in HEI in Nigeria, and how the institutions can improve their identification and use of available internal tacit knowledge resources. The methodology adopted was a literature search and discussion as basis for proposing a framework for action. This paper discusses the nature of tacit knowledge, institutional environment conditions for successful tacit knowledge transfers, as well as techniques for facilitating maximal use of tacit knowledge in HEI. An actionable framework for matching potential tacit knowledge transfer channels with tacit knowledge sources and recipients is proposed and discussed. This paper concludes that Nigerian HEIs need to embrace knowledge management tenets for the proper management and utilization of tacit knowledge, recommendations are provided towards achieving that objective.

However, in this technological age, the gender gap is gradually fizzling out due to high level of awareness and gains of ICTs by both gender groups. In view of this, this study examined gender disparities and perception towards ICTs among students in the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, University of Ilorin, Kwara State. Research design adopted for this study was a survey approach using a structured questionnaire to collect data from respondents using inferential and descriptive statistics in analysing data. Four out of five departments in the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences were randomly selected for this study, 35 students were selected systematically from four of the departments to facilitate uniformity, thereby constituting a Sample size of 140 students for this study. Findings in this study revealed no significant difference in perceived usefulness and perceived enjoyment between male and female students; while there was a significant difference in perceived ease of use. Based on these findings, it was concluded that cultural and societal beliefs do no longer influence the adoption of ICT tools, especially among female students. Recommendations were made towards improving the utilization of ICT tools, across the gender groups.

Personality Types as Correlates of Internet Dependence and Specific Internet Usage among Students of University of Ilorin, Nigeria
(Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, University of Ilorin, Nigeria, 2013) Afolayan, Oluyinka Titilope
The underlying factors determining internet dependence and specific internet usages are quite enormous especially for students. In view of this, this study examined personality types as correlate of Internet dependence and specific usages such as browsing, instant messaging, social network media, internet games and others amongst University of Ilorin students. Descriptive and inferential statistical tools were utilized to analyze data collected on a sample size of 425 students that were selected based on simple random sampling technique. Findings from the data analyses revealed significant positive and negative relationships established between the three personality types (Extroversion, Neuroticism and Psychoticism) and specific internet usages. It was observed that the three personality types have high correlations with either communications or entertainment related usages or both in varying degrees. Similarly, significant positive relationships were established between the three personality types and internet dependence. Neuroticism personality type for instance has the highest correlation (of .214) depicting that introverts are more dependent on virtual interactions due to their less involvement in face to face interactions. Gender difference is observed in specific internet usages and internet dependence between males and females. Males‟ dependence on the internet and quantum of specific usages is higher than females. Again, age difference is noticeable in the specific internet usages. The categories of students in the age range of 19-22 years have the highest in all the specific usages compared to other age groups. The study concluded by recommending that future studies should consider the impact of well-being outcomes on internet dependence and specific internet usages amongst students in Nigeria‟s higher institutions of learning. These outcomes include, among others, relationship problems, academic failure, self-esteem, social support, loneliness and anxiety. By doing this, socio psychological problems emanating from excessive internet usage by campus students can be alleviated and controlled.
