Item Influence of Parental Monitoring on Adolescents' Deviant Behaviors as Expressed by Married Adults in Ilorin Metropolis(Indonesia University of Education, 2020-08-18) Adegunju, KabirDeviant behavior is detrimental to adolescents, and parental monitoring is necessary to forestall this act. Consequently, this study investigated the influence of parental monitoring on adolescents' deviant behavior as expressed by married adults in the Ilorin metropolis. This study also investigated moderating variables, including gender, age, family type, and religion, on the respondents' view. It employed a descriptive survey method where 200 married adults were selected through simple random and purposive sampling techniques. The participants responded to a questionnaire titled 'Influence of Parental Monitoring on Deviant Behavior Questionnaire' (IPMDBQ).' The instrument's validity was conducted by a team of five experts from Nigeria, and the reliability yielded a correlation coefficient of 0.72. Besides, t-test and ANOVA statistical tools were employed to test the hypotheses at an alpha level of 0.05. The result revealed a positive influence of parental monitoring on adolescents' deviant behavior. It was found that there was no significant difference in the respondents' views based on gender, age, family type, and religion. Therefore, it is recommended that parents should monitor their wards appropriately to forestall deviant behavior among adolescents in Nigerian society.Item Perceived training needs of professional counsellors for effective role performance in educational development in Kwara State(Association of Professional Counsellors in Nigeria( APROCON), 2019) Agubosi, Lydia; Ayuba, Hammed; Adegunju, KabirItem Perceived training needs of professional counsellors for effective role performance in educational development in Kwara State(Association of Professional Counsellors in Nigeria( APROCON), 2019) Agubosi, Lydia; Ayuba, Hammed; Adegunju, KabirAbstract Education remains the bedrock and pivot of development in any nation. Nigeria educational system has been at the cross road for about ten years now. There is urgent need to build up structures that will salvage the educational system. The study examined the training need of professional counsellors for effective role performance in the development of education in Kwara State in this 21st century. The researchers employed descriptive survey in the study while the population comprised all the professional counsellors in Kwara State. Convenient sampling technique was used to select the sample of 100 professional counsellors that participated in the study while a researchers’ designed questionnaire tagged “Training Needs of Professional Counsellors for effective Role Performance (TNPCERPQ)” was used to collect data. The instrument was validated, the reliability coefficient of 0.72 was obtained through split half method. One research question and four hypotheses guided the study while a chi-square was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 significant level. All the hypotheses were rejected. The findings in the research question revealed that the counsellors need training on how to: apply counselling techniques and collaboration during counselling, handle behavioural problems in the school, among others. Findings also revealed that age, gender, years of service and place of practice made the respondetsdiffer in their training needs for effective role performance in educational development. Base on the findings the researchers recommended that there should be constant training for the counsellors, that age, gender, years of service and place of service should be considered when planning training programmes for the counsellors.Item THE RELATIONSHIP AMONG INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY UTILIZATION, SELF-REGULATED LEARNING AND ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF PROSPECTIVE TEACHERS(Acta Didactica Napocensia, 2018) Onivehu, Adams; Adegunju, Kabir; OHAWUIRO, Emilia; Oyeniran, JulianaThis study investigated the relationship among Information Communication Technology utilization, self-regulated learning and academic performance of prospective teachers. The ex-post facto design (correlation method) was employed for the study. The research subjects were 580 prospective teachers who were drawn using multi-stage sampling technique from University of Ilorin, Nigeria. Seven research questions were generated while four hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. A researcher-constructed questionnaire tagged “Information Communication Technology Utilization and Self-Regulated Learning Questionnaire (ICTUSRLQ)” was used for data collection. The instrument was administered on 60 selected prospective teachers outside the sample location through test-retest method; it yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.79 that was obtained through the Cronbach’s Alpha formula. Data were analysed with percentage, mean and rank order, t-test, Pearson Product Moment Correlation and multiple regression statistical tools. The findings revealed that prospective teachers have a high level of ICT utilization, self-regulation and academic performance; gender did not influence prospective teachers’ ICT utilization, selfregulation and academic performance; there was a significant relationship between Information Communication Technology utilization and self-regulated learning and that there was a significant composite relationship among ICT utilization, self-regulation (elaboration, organization, critical thinking, metacognition, peer learning and help seeking) and academic performance of prospective teachers. The researchers recommended that self-regulation training and ICT competence capacity building workshops should be organized for prospective teachers in University of Ilorin.
