Item Adjustment strategies toward menopause-related problems employed by menopausal women in Kwara state, Nigeria: Implications for counselling(Faculty of Education, University of Port-Harcourt, Nigeria, 2014) Adegboyega, Lateef Omotosho; Oniye, Abdulrasaq O.; Odebode, Aminat Adeola; Ajiboye, Samuel K.Menopause may be marked by a gradual decline in menstruation or in its frequency or it may cease abruptly. The objective of this study was to investigate the adjustment strategies toward menopause-related problems employed by menopausal women in Kwara State, Nigeria. The researchers thus investigated whether or not there was a significant difference in the adjustment strategies to menopause-related problems employed by menopausal women in Kwara State on the bases of religion and job type. Descriptive survey research procedure was adopted for the study. The Multistage sampling technique was used to draw a sample of 466 respondents.The instrument for data collection was the Adjustment Strategies towards Menopause-related Problems Questionnaire (ASMPQ). Research questions were raised while research hypotheses formulated were tested;the data collected were analysed through the use of frequency counts, percentages, t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that there was no significant difference in the adjustment strategies towards menopause-related problems of menopausal women on the bases of religion and type of job.Item Coping Strategies of Unemployed Youths in Kwara State, Nigeria(Asia Pacific Journal of Education, Arts and Sciences, 2016-07) Okesina, Falilat Anike; Adegboyega, Lateef Omotosho; Mustapha, Mulikat LAThe aftermath of unemployment is a great concern for researchers as the coping strategies are farfetched therefore, this study investigated the coping strategies of unemployed youths in Kwara State, Nigeria. The influence of variables such as gender, highest educational level and age were also examined. Quantitative research design was adopted for this study, while descriptive survey was also adopted as a research method for this study. Random and purposive sampling techniques were used to draw a total sample of 600. Coping Strategies of Unemployed Youths Questionnaire (CSUYQ)” was used to collect relevant data. The instrument was subjected to test re-test reliability co-efficient which yielded 0.68 and the hypotheses tested were analyzed using t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at 0.05 level of significance. Frequency counts and percentages were used to describe the demographic data. The study revealed that the coping strategies employed by unemployed youths include dependent on parents, attending vocational training workshops, engaging in casual labour etc. The research hypotheses tested revealed no significant difference in the coping strategies of unemployed youths in Kwara State based on educational qualification while there was a significant difference based on gender and age. O.Widowers have a lot to battle with because they are usually stigmatized on the grounds of the uncommonness of male widowhood, and this may be a challenge to getting remarried. This study examines the counselling needs for un-remarried widowers’ in Kwara State, Nigeria. The influence of variables such as age and highest educational attainment were also examined. Descriptive survey design was adopted for this study. Multi-stage sampling technique which comprises purposive sampling and snowball sampling techniques were adopted to draw a total sample of 200 respondents from Kwara State. “Counselling Needs for Un-remarried Widowers’ Questionnaire (CNUWQ)” was used to collect relevant data. The instrument was subjected to test re-test reliability method. The correlation co-efficient yielded a score of 0.72. Frequency counts and percentage were used to present the demographic data while the hypotheses tested were analyzed using t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at 0.05 level of significance. The study revealed that the major counselling needs of un-remarried widowers in Kwara State are: how to improve their socio-economic status, deal with stigmatization, isolation, depression and how to maintain positive self-esteem. On the other hand, the hypotheses tested revealed no significant difference in counselling needs for un-remarried widowers in Kwara State based on age and highest educational attainment. This study therefore investigated factors determining the non-use of family planning methods among literate married adults in Ibadan, Nigeria. A sample size of 600 respondents was used, which cut across the variables of gender and religion. The questionnaire form of instrument was used to obtain the required information and it was subjected to test re-test method of reliability. The instrument possessed a reliability coefficient of 0.81, which is high enough for this study. The measure of central tendency t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) statistics were used to analyse the data collected. The results revealed that health factors are the most significant determinants of non-use of family planning methods among the respondents while economic factors were also key. Male and female respondents differed in the factors determining the non-use of family planning methods but there was no significant difference based on region. M.Premarital sex among students of tertiary institution is increasing at an alarming rate in Nigeria, therefore this study sought to find out the factors influencing premarital sex among students of tertiary institution in Ilorin, Kwara state. Variables such as age, religion, gender and type of institutions were considered inrelation to the study. The researchers developed a questionnaire tagged factors influencing premarital sex among students of tertiary institutions (FPSSIIQ) which was used to collect data from the respondents. A two stage sampling technique was used to select 520 respondents that participate in the study. Hypothesis were formulated and tested at 0.05 level significance data collected were analysed using t-tested and analysis variance (ANOVA). The result showed that there was no significant difference on the factors influencing premarital sex among students of tertiary institution in Ilorin, Kwara state on the basis of age, gender, religion, institution, but there is a significant difference in the factors influencing premarital sex among students of tertiary institution in Ilorin, Kwara state on the basis type of institutions. Based on these findings, recommendations were made to counsellors, lecturers, religious leaders and the government.Item Factors responsible for cohabitation among youths as perceived by students of University of Ilorin(Department of Social Sciences Education, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria, 2022) Adegboyega, Lateef Omotosho; Fasasi, LukmanCohabitation is an intimate sexual union between two unmarried partners, who share the same living quarter for a sustained period of time. Hence, the study investigated factors responsible for cohabitation among youths as perceived by students of University of Ilorin. The research design that was adopted for the study is the descriptive survey method. The population for this study comprises all the 44,566 undergraduates at the University of Ilorin, while the target population for the study comprises 24,935 students of the selected Faculties. A total of 200 students constitutes the sample of this study. The instrument used for collection of the relevant data for this study was a 20-item structured questionnaire entitled; factors responsible for cohabitation among youths. The instrument was validated with a reliability coefficient of 0.65 after a test re-test using PPMC at 0.05 alpha level. The findings of this study revealed that reducing occurrence of loneliness, improving the academic performance of the cohabitants, it is morally acceptable, it encourages peer reading/study, it goes against the spiritual principle of purity among others are the common factors responsible for cohabitation. Also, there were significant differences in the factors responsible for cohabitation among youths as perceived by students of University of Ilorin on the basis of their faculty, gender, and level while there was no significant difference in the factors responsible for cohabitation among youths as perceived by students of University of Ilorin on the basis of their age bracket. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that; government should support the university management in providing sufficient accommodations for the students, and parents should make sure that they are monitoring the activities of their children to avoid the danger of cohabitation.Item Factors responsible for juvenile delinquency among secondary school students as expressed by teachers in Ilorin metropolis(Association of Professional Counsellors in Nigeria, 2018) Adegboyega, Lateef Omotosho; Muhammed, Shuaib Abolakale; Idowu, Adeyemi IbukunoluwaJuvenile delinquencies (JD) are rampant among secondary school students and this has become a major social concern. The purpose of this study was to examine the factors responsible for juvenile delinquency among secondary school students as expressed by teachers in Ilorin metropolis. Four moderating variables of paramount interest were gender, religion, highest educational attainment, and teaching experience. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study and Juvenile Delinquency Questionnaire (JDQ) in relation to factors responsible for JD was used to obtain relevant information. The instrument was validated and the test re-test method was employed to determine its reliability which yielded a co-efficient of 0.83. Multi-stage sampling procedure was used to select 180 respondents for the study. Five (5) research questions were raised while four (4) null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 alpha level. Percentage and weighted means were used to analyze the descriptive data while t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were used to test the formulated hypotheses at 0.05 alpha. The findings revealed that the major factors responsible for juvenile delinquency among secondary school students are inadequate parental love in the home; aiding and abetting crime for money and fame by religious leaders; inadequate monitoring of students by teachers; non provision of basic needs for children by parents among others. The findings also revealed that there were no significant differences in the factors responsible for juvenile delinquency among secondary school students as expressed by teachers based on gender, religion, highest educational attainment, and teaching experience. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others, that there should be proper planning and implementation of guidance programmes and interventions in order to minimize the factors responsible for juvenile delinquency. The research design employed for this study was descriptive method of the correlational survey type. The population for this study comprises all secondary school students with disabilities in Ogbomoso South, Oyo State. Two questionnaires were used to collect the necessary data. Bullying Prevalence Questionnaire (BPQ) was adopted from Rigby and Slee (1994). To measure family relationship, the instrument in this section was adopted from Nuhu (2013). Percentage was used to answer the research questions, while Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) statistical technique was used to test the generated hypothesis. The finding of this study revealed that majority of the respondents’ family relationship was negative. The finding also revealed that majority of the respondents bullying behaviour was low. Also, the finding of this study revealed that there is a significant relationship between family relationship and bullying behaviour among secondary school students with disabilities in Ogbomoso South, Oyo State, Nigeria. It was recommended that for bullying to be reduced, the Ministry of Education is responsible for the welfare of people and their development.Item Influence of Peer Pressure on Sexual Behavior of Undergraduates in Kwara State(Anatolian Journal of Education, 2019-04) Adegboyega, Lateef Omotosho; Ayoola, Victoria Abake; Muhammed, ShuaibSexual development of the youth has increased in the society and public health concerns of all involved. This study investigated the influence of peer pressure on sexual behavior of undergraduates in Kwara State. Descriptive research design was adopted for the study as well as multi stage sampling procedure. A total of 395 undergraduates participated in the study, four research questions were generated to guide the conduct of the study, while three null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The instrument used for data collection for this study was a researchers-designed and structured questionnaire entitled “Influence of Peer Pressure Questionnaire” (IPPQ). The findings revealed that the influence of peer pressure on sexual behavior of undergraduates reveals that it leads students to erotic electro-stimulation, prostitution, risk of contracting Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) and involvement in incest. There were no significant differences in the influence of peer pressure on sexual behavior of undergraduates in Kwara State based on gender and age. There was a significant difference in the influence of peer pressure on sexual behavior of undergraduates in Kwara State based on university attended. It was therefore recommended, among others that counsellors should enlighten the students on how peer pressure could be used to channel the students’ behavior towards positive activities, counsellors should inform the students about the positive and negative influence of peer pressure to enhance self-esteem and social skills rather than for abusive purposes to students of different gender and age and counsellors should look for underlying issues that may have led to exhibition of risk sexual behavior through peer pressure and try to identify the perpetrators so that the victims could be offered counselling on assertiveness skills, socialization skills and improving self-concept.Item Information and communication technology utilization and administrative effectiveness in Polytechnics in South-West, Nigeria(Department of Educational Foundations and Management University of Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti, Nigeria., 2015-03-12) OJO, Olubukola James; Tella, Adeyinka; Adegboyega, Lateef OmotoshoItem Menopause-related problems of women in Kwara state, Nigeria(Faculty of Education, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Nigeria, 2014) Oniye, Abdulrasaq O.; Adegboyega, Lateef Omotosho; Odebode, Aminat Adeola; Alwajud, Mariam B.Menopause is a profound change in the lives of women as it takes them to the next stage of their non-reproductive life. The main objective of this study is to investigate the menopause-related problems of menopausal women in Kwara State, Nigeria. The researchers thus investigated whether or not there was a significant difference in the menopause-related problems of menopausal women in Kwara State on the bases of age and highest educational attainment. The study also examined the influence of variable such as gender and age on motivation for drug abuse among students of tertiary institutions in Kwara State. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for this study.Simple and stratified (based on gender and age) random sampling techniques were adopted to draw a total of 450 participants for the study from the three senatorial districts of Kwara State. The motivation for drug abuse questionnaire (MDAQ) was used to collect relevant data with a test re-test reliability co-efficient of 0.65. A t-test statisticaltool was used to test the two null hypotheses postulated at 0.05 alpha level while frequency count and percentages were used to compute the demographic data.The study revealed that tertiary institution students are motivated towards drugs in order to conform with peer pressure, to experiment how drug works and to work better. Despite several steps that have been taken to control the situation, drug abuse prevalence is still on the high side among young people. In order to curb the problem of drug abuse among youths, this study thus investigated the prevalence of drug abuse among students of tertiary institutions in Kwara State, Nigeria. The study also examined the influence of variables of religion and family type on the prevalence of drug abuse among students of tertiary institutions in Kwara State, Nigeria. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. Simple and stratified random sampling techniques were adopted to draw a total of 450 respondents who participated in the study from the three senatorial districts of Kwara State. The instrument for data collection was the prevalence of drug abuse questionnaire (PDAQ). The data collected were analysed through the use of frequency counts, percentages, t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at 0.05 level of significance. The major findings showed a high prevalence of drug abuse among students of tertiary institutions in Kwara State, Nigeria. The findings equally showed no significant difference in the prevalence of drug abuse among students of tertiary institutions based on religion and family type. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that peer counselling be organized among the students; counsellors should be employed in schools to enlighten students on the danger inherent in drug use/abuse, authorities of tertiary institutions should include drug programmes in the general subjects (GNS) curriculum, new students in school should be sensitized against drugs, religious and community leaders should educate young people against drug abuse.Item Problems associated with single parenting by literate parents in Ilorin metropolis, Kwara State(University of Ilorin Library and Publications Committee, Ilorin, Nigeria, 2017) Oniye, Abdulrazaq Olayinka; Odebode, Aminat Adeola; Adegboyega, Lateef OmotoshoDue to different lifestyles that now permeate the Nigerian society, single parenthood which in the past decades was alien to the Nigerian culture has been on a geometric increase. This study investigated the problems associated with single parenting as expressed by literate single parents in Ilorin metropolis. The differences in the respondents' expression on the bases of gender, age and type of occupation were also examined. Two hundred (200) literate single parents were selected in Ilorin metropolis using convenience sampling technique. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The instrument used was a researcher-designed questionnaire entitled "Problems Associated with Single Parenting Questionnaire (PAPSQ)". The validity of the instrument was done by experts in the Department of Counsellor Education, University of Ilorin while its reliability was ascertained using test-retest reliability method with r-value of 0.68. The data collected were analysed using t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) statistical tools at 0.05 alpha level. The findings showed that the problems associated with single parenting are loneliness, sense of guilt, deteriorating health profile, financial difficulty, and inability to give children adequate discipline among others. The findings also revealed that there were no significant differences in the problems associated with single parenting on the bases of age, gender and type of occupation of the respondents. Based on the findings, it was recommended that counsellors, psychologists, family therapists and social workers should sensitise people about problems associated with single parenting. It is a social ill that leads youths to crime, delinquencies, robbery, restiveness, poverty, among others. In this regard, this study investigated the psycho-social challenges of unemployed youths in Kwara State, Nigeria. The influence of variables such as gender, highest educational level and age were also examined on the psycho-social challenges of unemployed youths. Quantitative research design was adopted for this study, while descriptive survey was also adopted as a research method for this study. Random and purposive sampling techniques were used to draw a total sample of 600. “Psycho-social Challenges of Unemployed Youths Questionnaire (PSCUYQ)” was used to collect relevant data. The study revealed that poverty, lack of access to capital, and poor entrepreneurial skills were the most prominent psycho-social challenges confronting unemployed youths in Kwara State. The research hypotheses tested revealed no significant difference in the psycho-social challenges of unemployed youths in Kwara State based on gender while there were significant differences based on educational qualification and age. In line with the findings of the study, it was recommended that Nigerian government should design more vocational programmes and revitalizes the existing ones; provide take-off grants for unemployed youths to establish businesses. Homosexuality and Pedophilia are not strange sexual behaviour in Nigeria despite the grave punishment attached to it. Though many American and European countries legalise the act and has been pressuring other countries to do the same; Nigeria inclusive. Unusual sexual experience at childhood as been identify as one of the causes of homosexuality and pedophilia. One of the effects of homosexuality and pedophilia is high risk of suicide and can be cure by therapist/counsellors using techniques like aversive. The researchers thus investigated whether or not there was a significant different in the sources of marital stress of people in polygamous marriages in Kwara State on the bases of gender, religious affiliation and educational attainment. Descriptive survey research procedure was adopted for the study. The multistage sampling technique was used to draw a sample of 600 respondents. The instrument for data collection was the Sources of Marital Stress Questionnaire (SMSQ). Research questions were raised while research hypotheses formulated were tested. The data collected were analyzed through the use of frequency counts, percentages, t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that inability of husbands/wives to meet the sexual demands of wives/husband was the major source of marital stress of people in polygamous marriage. Based on the findings, there is a need for proper enlightenment on marital counsellling for the singles and the married on the stress associated with polygamous marriages
