Item A REVIEW ON CHILDREN’S BEHAVIOUR AND THEIR ATTACHMENT TO THE PUBLIC OPEN SPACE IN CITIES OF NIGERIA(Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta,, 2018-04) Abubakar-Kamar, A.T; Rasidi, M.H; Ismail, B.SAbstract Every child in a city has connection with their environment and its public open space. The space influences children’s behaviour, knowledge, attitudes and cognition. Incontrovertibly, informal learning takes place in the public open space in cities of Nigeria. Children are independent and enjoy talent with creative scenario which influence their attachment to where they can relate with their socio-physical environment and exchange ideas at the informal levels. Fundamentally, existing literature revealed that socio-physical space is fundamental for the development and modifications of children social and their attachment to public open space. Interestingly, environmental psychology theories suggest that socio-environmental contexts determine and shape the children attitude in public open space. In addition, literature appraised showed importance of design and planning of public open space to create a conducive environment capable of developing positive social behaviour. Therefore, this paper reviewed existing literature on the relationship between children behaviour and public open space in cities of Nigeria. It describes patterns of social behaviour among children and their attachment to public open spaces.Item Liveability aWellness of Residence of Oloje Community in Ilorin West Local Government Area, Ilorin Nigeria(Kampala International University, 2017) Bako, Abdullateef Iyanda; Aduloju, Olalekan Tolulope B.; Abubakar-Kamar, A.THousing matters to the liveability and wellness of cities and to the productivity of their economies. Liveability in housing supports the health, wellbeing and the quality of life of people. The way they are planned, designed, built and managed can enhance or detract from liveability. However, this research was borne out with the aim of examining the liveability and wellness of Oloje community, by assessing the infrastructure facilities, housing conditions, sanitary facilities, socio-economic characteristics, environmental conditions as well as associated disasters. The methodology employed used systematic sampling technique of interval of 5 buildings, amounting to one hundred and thirteen (113) buildings being sampled. The research was able to come out with germane findings that income, infrastructures, housing facilities, building materials, age of buildings and flooding as some principle factors affecting liveability of residents of Oloje. A multiple regression analysis performed showed the F- value calculated is greater than the F – value on table, which shows the dependency of housing satisfaction on some principle factors. The research concluded the findings with basic recommendations like slum upgrading and economic rejuvenation, provision of infrastructure master plan, as well as public awareness as the way forward.
