Biology practical infl uence on students’ academic performance in Ilorin East LGA, Kwara State: a statistical analysis
(University of Kabale Uganda, 2023) Abidoye, Florence Omosholape; Abidoye, Adekunle Omotayo
The study looked at the statistical analysis of how biology lab work affected senior secondary students' academic performance in Ilorin East, Kwara State, Nigeria. The research was a form of descriptive survey in Ilorin East L.G.A., Kwara State. 120 pupils were sampled for the study utilizing a proportionate and easy random selection procedure. To gather data from respondents, a questionnaire that had been carefully constructed was used. Utilizing percentage, mean, frequency count, independent t test, ANOVA at 0.05alpha level of significant. Three research questions and two research hypotheses that had been formulated. The study's findings showed that biology practical has a significant impact on senior secondary school students' academic performance as well as their level of comprehension and retention abilities. However, there was no significant impact of biology practical on students' academic performance based on gender but it was significant based on class size. The Ministry of Education should provide adequate laboratory equipment and a good laboratory environment to foster a spirit of curiosity in students, and stakeholders should build more infrastructure, such as laboratories, classrooms, and other spaces, in order to facilitate better understanding among the students

Biology teachers’ impact on students academic performance in senior secondary schools in Osun State, Nigeria
(Aurel Vlaicu University, Arad Romania, 2023) Abidoye, Florence Omosholape; Abidoye, Adekunle Omotayo; Afolabi Kayode OJO,
This study examined the Biology teachers’ impact on the performance of students in secondary schools in Osun State, Nigeria. This study sample included forty-eight (48) Secondary Schools selected by random sampling technique. The researcher designed teachers’ questionnaire which were administered to one hundred forty-five (145) Biology teachers. Researcher-designed validated questionnaire was used to elicit information from the respondents on the impact of biology teachers to the performance of students. Three research questions and two research hypotheses were formulated. Frequency counts and t-test statistics were used to analysis the data collected. Finding of this study revealed that Biology teachers’ impact to teaching in Secondary Schools was significant based on gender but it was not significant based on years of teaching experience. Based on the research findings recommendations were made on how the Biology teachers will have positive impact on students’ performance in senior secondary schools among others

On a Proposed Test Statistic for Testing Equality of Two Means Under Unequal Population Variances
(Faculty of Humanities, Umaru Musa Yar'Adua University, Katsina, Nigeria, 2017-04-30) Abidoye, Adekunle Omotayo; Sanni, Olusola O. M.; Ikoba, Nehemiah Arhoesere; Job, Obalowu
In this paper, we propose a test statistic for testing equality of two independent sample means for unequal variances. When variances differ, the pooled sample variance is inadequate as a single value for the variances. This problem is commonly known as the Behrens-Fisher problem. Instead, the sample harmonic mean of variances is proposed, examined and found to represent the unequal variances better. The distribution of this statistic which is known to be generalized Beta is further approximated by the chi-square distribution with the degrees of freedom related to that of the degrees of freedom of the chi-square distribution of the pooled sample variance. Consequently, it is used to replace the pooled sample variance in the resulting proposed t-test. An application of the test statistic using real-life data is provided.

Statistical Testing on Basic Science Practical on Students’ Performance in Ilorin East, Kwara State
(EduBasic Journal: Jurnal Pendidikan Dasar, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia Kampus Serang, 2024) Abidoye, Florence Omosholape; Abidoye, Adekunle Omotayo
It is urgent to address a systematic and objective approach to evaluating students’ practical skills. Exceptionally, current subjective assessment methods for students’ practical performance are to be provided with a more objective evaluation. Hence, the study investigated statistical testing on Basic Science practical on students’ academic performance in Ilorin East, Kwara State, Nigeria. The study was a descriptive research survey type. 120 students were sampled in secondary schools in Ilorin East LGA using a purposive sampling technique. The researchers designed a questionnaire that was used to accumulate information from respondents. Data collected were analyzed using percentage, mean, frequency count, independent t-test, and ANOVA at 0.05 alpha significance level. The findings revealed that Basic Science practical has a great influence on school students' academic performance and also on the level of understanding and retention capabilities of students but there was no significant influence on students’ academic performance based on gender as well as class size. Also, student’s academic performance in Basic Science was not significantly influenced by gender or class size partially. It is recommended that all Basic Science teachers should engage students more in practical activities than the theory aspect to facilitate better understanding among the students
