    Assessment of the use of Moys classification scheme in selected judiciary libraries in Kwara State, Nigeria

    Judicial libraries are collections of books managed by librarians, established and organized to facilitate the learning, research and practice of law (American Bar Association, 2021). Moys Classification Scheme (MCS) was built from the existing Library of Congress Classification Scheme for law; main class K is the most acceptable classification scheme for organizing law resources. However, due to a lack of knowledge of Moys application by many librarians, the organisation of law collection becomes difficult which might be attributed to the late adoption of MCS (Godwin & Adepoju 2019). Based on the above, this study tends to examine the adequate use of Moys classification by librarians and how effective the scheme classifies collections in judicial libraries in Kwara State. This study adopts quantitative research, using a survey research design. The study population includes forty-seven (47) library staff in Kwara state judiciary libraries. A total enumerative sampling technique was used. The research instrument employed was questionnaires. The collected data was analyzed using the descriptive method of data analysis of simple percentage, table and frequency. The finding of the study is that judiciary librarians know how to use Moys classification scheme among others. The study concluded that little or no knowledge of Moys classification from library school makes it difficult for them to comprehend some judicial terminology when classifying. Recommendations were also made.

    Influence of personal variables on library staff motivation and job performance in University libraries in Kwara State

    Abstract The study examined the influence of personal variables on library staff motivation and job performance in university libraries in Kwara State. The study employed descriptive survey research. The population of the study consisted of all tertiary institution library staff in Kwara state. A sample of 144 respondents (36 professional librarians, 45 library officers and 63 library assistants) was purposively drawn from three universities (federal, state and private) in Kwara State. Three research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. Questionnaire was used as the instrument for data collection. Three experts validated the instrument. The data collected was analysed using mean and standard deviation for research question one, two and three, t-test was used to test hypotheses one while hypothesis two was tested with ANOVA. The finding of the study showed that library staffs were motivated towards their job performance in university library in Kwara State, there was no significant difference between male and female of personal variable on library staff motivation and job performance in university libraries. There was significant difference existed among library staff cadre of personal variables on library staff motivation and job performance in university libraries. The study recommended among other that management of university libraries in Kwara State should endeavour to motivate their staff intrinsically and extrinsically by promoting staff as at when due and payment of allowance.     Library services provision to visually-impaired users in academic libraries: A gap in the literature. Library and Information Perspectives and Research,

    The importance of providing library and information services to the visually-impaired students for educational pursuit in academic libraries cannot be ignored. This is because the students cannot use the normal facilities that their sighted counterparts uses, they require special facilities and services. This paper sought to provide a systematic review of theoretical and empirical literature about services provision for visually-impaired students in academic libraries. Reviewing the related literature focuses mainly on studies about availability of and accessibility to facilities for this category of students, perceptions about providing services for the students, training in visually-impaired services provision, accessibility to the services by the students, constraints to effective visually-impaired services provision in academic libraries as well as appraisal of reviewed literature. An in-depth account of the selected and related literature indicated that, many libraries in the university seldom provide services for the students who are visually-impaired due to limited financial and human resources, insufficient assistive technology, inadequacy of funding and absence of trained personnel among others. This category of students have limited access to many of the major required facilities and services. Furthermore, the article contributes to the growing body of knowledge and builds on existing literature in this area of study.     Towards an inclusive services provision for the visually-impaired students in Nigeria university libraries

    Abstract This study explored library services provided for students who are visually impaired in six University Libraries in Nigeria to determine their access to facilities and establish their level of satisfaction with the services they received. Survey designs were employed on purposively selected 104 students. Questionnaire was used for data collection, and data from the questionnaire were analysed using frequency counts and percentages. The researchers found out that majority of the visually-impaired students do not have access at all to many of the facilities and services but were satisfied with the librarians’ attitude. However, a large number of students were not satisfied with the services and skill of the librarians in providing services for their research and academic work. The study recommended, amongst others, that the library administrators should ensure increased and sustainable access to all relevant facilities to promote and provide an inclusive and equitable library and information services to the visually-impaired students in Nigeria University Libraries.     Utilisation patterns of open access information resources (OAIR) among Polytechnic students in South-west Nigeria

    Abstract The study investigated the utilisation patterns of Open Access Information Resources (OAIRs) among polytechnic students in South-West Nigeria. It examined the types of OAIRs accessed, the purposes of their utilisation, and the frequency of use. The study adopted descriptive survey research design with the population comprising ND and HND students across 47 polytechnics in South-West Nigeria. Questionnaire was used as the instrument for data collection for the study and the study sampled 1,630 National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) students across 47 polytechnic institutions using a multistage sampling technique. The data retrieved from the respondents were analysed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression tests via SPSS. The findings reveal that students predominantly utilise databases, research articles, repositories, theses, and e-books, reflecting a preference for peer reviewed and academically authoritative resources. OAIRs were primarily used for academic discussions, seminars and workshops, independent study, assignments, and research activities, indicating that these resources are embedded within formal academic workflows. In terms of frequency, research articles and e-books were accessed most regularly, whereas audio/video lectures and repositories were consulted less frequently. The study further highlights that usage patterns are influenced by factors such as digital literacy, awareness, accessibility, and institutional support. Based on these findings, the study recommend that Polytechnic libraries should intensify sensitisation programmes to increase students’ awareness of diverse open access platforms, particularly repositories and multimedia resources that recorded lower usage frequency. Regular workshops on digital literacy and effective search strategies should be organised to improve students’ competence in navigating open access databases, repositories, and scholarly platforms.
