Item Causes and Implications of Codeine Cough Syrup Addiction among Adolescents in Kano State Nigeria(Faculty of Arts & Education, Lead City University, Ibadan, Nigeria, 2021) Abdulraheem, A.M.There has been a steady rise in the incidences of drug addiction throughout the world. This study examined the causes and implications of codeine cough syrup addiction among adolescents in Kano State, Nigeria. The objectives of the study were to find out the prevalent causes and implications of codeine cough syrup addiction among adolescents in Kano State, Nigeria. A cross sectional survey was adopted for the study. A sample of one hundred (100) respondents who were adolescents and were willing to be part of the study were purposively selected for the study. A researcher developed and validated questionnaire was used to collect data for the study. The reliability of the instrument was ascertained using a split half method. The correlation coefficient was .87r. Data were analysed using Mean and Standard Deviation. Findings revealed that there is a significant difference in the causes of codeine cough syrup addiction among male and female adolescents in kano State (Pvalue=0.001<0.05). Some of the causes were peer pressure, failure in school, permissive parents, curiosity, boredom, willingness to try new things and willingness to rebel against parents are the causes of codeine cough syrup addiction among adolescents in the study area. Findings also revealed that, codeine cough syrup abuse has led to blurred vision, constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, tiredness, weakness, vomiting and nausea, difficulty in breathing, among others.Item Causes of Drugs Abuse as Expressed by Secondary School Students in Moro Local Government Area, Kwara State.(Human Resource Research Centre (HRRC) of the University of Zimbabwe, 2019) Ologele, I.; Abdulraheem, A.M.; Jidda, K.A.; Kperogi, I.I.; James, J.F.; Oyewole, S. BAbstract Increase in a number of young people abusing drugs has become a subject of public concern worldwide. Therefore, the study investigated the causes of drug abuse as expressed by secondary school students in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria. The population of the study comprises of all the secondary school students in Moro Local Government Area. The descriptive research design of survey type was adopted for the study. Four hundred and thirty (430) respondents were selected for the study with the use of purposive, proportionate and simple random sampling procedures. Researchers’ designed questionnaire that had been validated by three experts in the related field was used for the study. A test-retest method was used to ascertain the reliability of the instrument and the result of 0.72r was obtained. Inferential statistics of chi-square was used to analyze the result of the stated hypotheses at 0.05 alpha level of significance. The result of the findings of this study showed that peer group and poor parental communication had an influence on the causes of drug abuse (428.01> 16.92 at 0.05 alpha level of significant, 234.00>16.92) among secondary school students. The researchers concluded that peer group influence and poor parental communication causes drug abuse among secondary school students in Moro Local Government Area, Kwara State, Nigeria. The researchers’ recommended among others that Parents should show love, happiness and also take responsibility for helping secondary students to attain wholesome development into responsible adults. Keywords: Causes, Drug Abuse, Students, Secondary School, ExpressedItem Perceived Needs for Health Education Programme for the elderly people in Bida Local Governemnt Area, Niger State(Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, 2019) Abdulraheem, A.M.Healthy ageing is one of the most important goals of any nation. The ageing population constitute a great percentage of the population which must not be undermined in the healthcare delivery system. The study examined the needs for health education program for elderly people in Bida Local Government Area, Niger State, Nigeria. The objectives of the study were to examine; (i) the needs for health insurance scheme for the aged and (ii) the need for establishment of old peoples' home for the aged people in Bida, Niger State. A descriptive research design of survey type was used. Four hundred (400) respondents formed the sample for the study. The samples were selected across households in the four selected wards in Bida Local Government Area using multi-stage sampling technique. A researcher developed questionnaire tagged "OPNHEDP, validated by three Jurors and tested for reliability using test re-test which yielded a correlation coefficient of 0,73r was used for the study. Data was collected by the researcher with the help of three trained research assistants. Chi-square was used to analyse the hypotheses for the study at 0.05 alpha level of significance. Findings revealed that elderly people in Bida saw the need for their inclusion in the health insurance scheme as important and there is need for the establishment of old peoples' home. The researcher recommended that local government authorities should include elderly people, regardless of their occupation in the health insurance scheme in order to promote healthful living and prompt medical care for various ailments.
