    Adoption of integrated library management soft ware in Academic Libraries

    Abstract Rapid advances in technology have significantly turned libraries nature from traditional system to automated systems. The adoption of new technologies has become the most essential factor for the academic libraries in Nigeria to stay active as information providers. Today many of the day-to-day activities of academic libraries are carried out through the use of integrated library management software (ILMS). Library professionals in Nigeria are now effectively using this software to provide innovative services to their valued users. This paper examines the concept of Integrated Library Management Software, growth and development of ILMS as well as types and features of some integrated library management software. The paper also discusses the adoption of integrated library management software in academic libraries in Nigeria for library Operations.

    Assessment of ICT Utilisation Among Legal Practitioners in Kwara State

    Abstract This study examines the utilization of ICTs among legal practitioners in Kwara State. The study adopted a descriptive survey design, the population of the study was 772 consisting of all the registered legal practitioners in the Ilorin and Offa branches of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA). Total enumeration was adopted and a stratified sampling technique was applied. The study used a questionnaire as a data collection instrument and the data collected were analyzed. The study found out the available ICT resources include mobile phones, laptops, desktops, scanners, electronic court records, Internet and CD-Rom, which legal practitioners use on daily bases purposely to further knowledge on legal issues, for the work in progress and to defend their client in the court of law. The study also reported that revamping the nature of ICT resources, poor internet facilities, and epileptic power supply are some of the challenges that legal practitioners encountered while using ICT resources. The study concludes that ICT utilization is ponderous in the legal profession. Among the recommendations given is that a standby generator/inverter should be provided to curb the issue of power failure.

    Current Trends in Academic Library Services: Roadmap to Education for Sustainable Development in Nigeria

    Abstract Education has been seen as a tool for attaining national growth and development. Hence, the role of libraries as a support service provider to educational institutions and realization of education for sustainable development cannot be over-emphasized. Specifically, this paper underscores the contributions of academic libraries and librarians towards achieving quality education for sustainable development in tertiary institutions in Nigeria. It traces old systems of information management with primary focus on the current trends in library and information services; innovative and creative services arising from the evolution of Information and communication technology, digitization and development of digital libraries. The opportunities inherent in access to digital information in support of learning, teaching and research are discussed. The paper also identifies challenges hindering effective digitization services in the new library environment in Nigeria. It concludes that the future of today’s information lies with the evolution of digital library and innovative services for sustainable development in higher education in Nigeria.

    Factors Influencing the Use of Open Access Resources by Library and Information Science Postgraduate Students, University of Ilorin

    Abstract The study investigated factors influencing the use of open access resources by library and information science postgraduate students at the university of Ilorin. The study adopted a total enumeration method to involve all 94 LIS postgraduate students at the University of Ilorin. A web-based questionnaire was designed using Google form and the generated link was shared among postgraduate students of Library and Information Science, University of Ilorin. The link was shared with various groups of postgraduate students of Library and Information Science via WhatsApp and Telegram. The responses were collected for two weeks. The study reported that awareness, attitude, performance expectancy and internet self-efficacy are factors influencing the use of open access resources The study also revealed a shortage of power supply, a bad network, poor awareness and poor searching skills as the challenges influencing the use of open access resources The study recommends that awareness of the use of open access should be increased to the postgraduate students
