Assessment of infrastructural services provision by the federal governmentin The South East Geo-political Zone and implications for restructuring.
    (Department of Sociology, University of Ilorin., 2021-10) Sunday,E.A.;; Arinde-Simeon, T.O.;; Abdulhameed, A.
Abstract The lop-sided infrastructural architecture in many geopolitical zones in Nigeria since the enthronement of President Mohammadu Buhari administration in 2015 seems to be one of the main causes of the current political agitations and secessionist movements calling for restructuring. Notwithstanding the provision of the nation's constitution that guarantees true federalism with equity, justice, and fairness, many people, especially in the Southeast region of Nigeria have alleged favoritism and marginalization in the provisions of some basic infrastructural services. The paper examined the nature of infrastructural services provided in this geo-political zone (south east) in comparison with other geopolitical entities in Nigeria and its implications to political restructuring. The qualitative method of data collection was employed with In-depth Interview (IDI) as the major instrument although complemented with secondary sources The Equity Theory and Spatial Inequality Theory formed the theoretical framework of the study. Findings from the study revealed that the southeast geo-political zone has been marginalized in infrastructural services distribution which the respondents attributed to ethnicity and religious differences. The respondents did not consider resources derivation as an attributable factor but agreed generally that the refusal of the zone to vote massively for the ruling government in 2015 and 2019 general elections respectively accounted for their ordeal. Given these revelations, some recommendations were made geared at embracing equity, justice, and fairness in infrastructural services distribution which will also douse the current tension for restructuring.

(Department of Sociology, Federal University of Lafia., 2020-10) Abdullahi, K. I.;; Uthman A. E.;; Tejideen, T.O.;; Abdulhameed, A.; Atiku, A.
Abstract Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a complex social problem, a major global concern, and an obstacle to good family relationship in the developing regions of the world, including Africa.Generally, IPV occurs in the private sphere of the family and poses serious risks to men in recent times. This study was prompted by the paucity of data to address the growing problem of IPV in Nigeria, particularly the narrow focus on men's experiences in the current state of knowledge. Thus this study examined the intimate partner violence against men in Kwara Central Nigeria. The study utilized quantitative research method and adopts a descriptive survey using a structured questionnaire. Cluster and simple random sampling techniques were used for the selection of the respondents. Sample sizes of 400 married men were randomly selected for the study.TheYamane’s statistical formula was adopted to determine the exact number of questionnaire that was used for the study. The data collected were statistically analyzed using simple percentages. The findings revealed that factors such as economic instability, infidelity, sexual incompatibility, poor marital communication and marital interference are the major factors responsible for IPV against men in Kwara Central Nigeria. It was also revealed that emotional distress, divorce or separation, injuries and death are the implications of IPV against men. The study recommends counseling for intending couples, sensitization of couples on the danger of IPV, strict punishment for IPV offender and reportage of any case of IPV against men to the authorities.

Perceived challenges of medical social workers in a public health facility in Ilorin
(Department of Social Work, University of Nigeria, Nssuka., 2020-06) Adewunmi, A; Abdullahi, A. A; Yusuf, M. S.; Abdulhameed, A.
Medical social workers are important players in the overall management of diseases and illnesses in hospital settings. They help facilitate the treatment process and contribute to the overall well-being of the patients. However, there is a growing interprofessional misconception of roles between social workers and other medical personnel in hospitals coupled with societal lack of knowledge of the role of social workers in medical facilities. In this study, the perceived challenges of medical social workers in a tertiary health facility in Ilorin were investigated using a phenomenological research design. Fifteen participants who were medical social workers were purposively selected. Data gathered was analysed using thematic and content analyses. The study found prejudice, discrimination, and structural conflicts as the major challenges of medical social workers in the facility studied. Other perceived challenges were non-recognition of the roles of medical social workers by other health practitioners, which often dovetails into a lack of cooperation. The study recommends structural adjustment and policy framework that would institutionalize the roles of medical social workers in health facilities not only in the study area but the whole country. This will not only boost the morale of medical social workers but also improve the good working relationship among other medical personnel.

Perceived effects of job stress on the work behaviour and attitude of nurses towards patients in the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Nigeria.
(Faculty of Social Sciences, Imo State University, Owerri, Nigeria., 2024-09-25) Abdulhameed, A.; Wemimo, E. D.; Ibrahim, A. K.
The study examined the perceived effect of job stress on nurses' work behaviour and attitude toward patients in the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. It aimed at tackling how job stress can be adequately and effectively managed by the nurses, hospital management, and government to avoid unnecessary negative attitudes of nurses towards patients that may adversely affect the quality of services provided. The study adopted a Correlational research survey. A convenient sampling technique was adopted, and the sample size was 150. However, 145 questionnaires were recovered from the participants, and eight in-depth interviews (IDI) were conducted to support the stance of the quantitative data. Three hypotheses were formulated and tested at a 0.05 level of significance. The first hypothesis was rejected because there is a significant effect of job stress on the attitude and work behaviour of nurses toward patients; the second was accepted because there was no significant effect of job stress on the relationship among nurses; the third hypothesis was rejected because there is a significant effect of job stress on the quality of care given to patients by nurses. The study concludes that job stress significantly affects nurses' work behaviour and attitude towards patients. Therefore, the study recommends that the government and other stakeholders give the welfare of the nurses’ utmost priority in the hospital setting, which will boost the morale of nurses to cope with the working conditions they find themselves in. The government and hospital management should implement policies allowing work flexibility amongst nurses, preventing them from experiencing frequent stress

This study investigates the major challenges that faced the elderly. In addition, the study also investigates the perceived knowledge and attitudes of social workers towards the elderly in Ilorin, Kwara state. Eleven participants who are social workers working in geriatric homes were purposively selected for the study. Data collected was analysed using thematic analysis. The study found stroke, memory loss, ageism, isolation and resource mobilization as the part of the perceived experience of elderly people. The traditional emphasis on family-centered care is fast becoming a relic of the past because of changes in family dynamics. The study recommends that there is need for government at all level to establish geriatric hospitals where the interdisciplinary team including the social workers who have a clear understanding of older people's challenges will be employed. Lastly, the paper concluded that there is little or no effort from governments to support geriatric institutions in Kwara state.
