Item Ethnic Groups' Relations In The Emergence Of The Fulani Dynasty In Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria(Labar: Journal of Military History and Peace Studies, 2025-02-07) AbdulRahman Adebayo Suleiman; Rasheed Onagun; Lukman AdeshinaThe foundation of co-existence in Ilorin Emirate is premised on nascent settlements of the Baruba hermit, Ojo-Isekuse, Laderin, Solagberu, Abdullahi, Bako, AbdulMumeen, Dose and Olufadi (al-Fahd) in different quarters of Ilorin between seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Each of the aforementioned personalities played socio-cultural roles that fostered relations. Some writers and traditional narrators, especially non-professional historians hardly see pre-Alimi Ilorin history as the foundation and inseparable part of Ilorin history, some writers emphasized a single ethnic group as the basis for the establishment of the Emirate. This work found the essentiality of pre-Alimi Ilorin history, ethnic collaborations and individuals‘ contributions to the establishment of the Ilorin Emirate in 1823. The Ilorin Emirate comprises five L.G.As of Kwara State, namely, Asa L.G.A, Ilorin East L.G.A, Ilorin South L.G.A, Ilorin West L.G.A and Moro L.G.A. This paper examines the contribution of all the ethnic groups‘ subjects and the earliest ward leaders of Ilorin to the survival of each settlement and the emergence of the Ilorin Emirate. Sources of data collection for this study involved primary and secondary. The methodology adopted in his work is historical hence, it relied on primary (oral interviews, praise songs and folklore) and secondary sources. The paper concludes that the administrative acumen of the early Ilorin settlers provided an avenue for the evolution and the heterogeneity of Ilorin as a community.Item Ilorin Emirate Scholars of Nupe Origin’s Role in The Educational Curriculum of The Emirate(Journal of Islamic Educational Research (JIER), 2025-05) AbdulRahman Adebayo Suleiman; Yusuf Saliu Danlad; Ibraheem Mikail AbiolaEducation is the basis of uprightness, morality, credible and reliable technology, and security, which are essential for life sustenance. The foundation of standard education lies in a sound curriculum. In the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, the University of Timbuktu in the defunct Songhai Empire of West Africa competed successfully with European Universities in all spheres of knowledge. However, in the twenty-first century, none of the West African universities possessed the quality attained by their counterparts in the industrialized countries. This indicates that many things went wrong in our universities' evolutionary trends and development. This study examined the historical contributions of Nupe scholars alongside other ethnic groups (Hausa, Yoruba, and Fulani) of Ilorin Emirate origin to the educational development of the geographical entity, to enable the reform of our educational system for positive growth. The paper adopted a historical research method, which involved a case study approach, using archival materials, oral interviews, text content analysis, comparative analysis, and internet materials to assess the causes and courses of the dysfunctional educational system in the Ilorin Emirate. The study concluded that the scholars of Nupe extractions from the Ilorin Emirate contributed immensely to the enrichment of the academic curriculum of the Emirate. Although this was sustained, there was a slow pace in its further development, which adversely impacted the educational development of the Ilorin Emirate.Item THE FACTOR OF TRADE IN THE DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS BETWEEN THE NUPE PEOPLE AND THE ILORIN EMIRATE(Journal of History Department, University of Malaya., 2023-12-10) AbdulRahman Adebayo SuleimanSeveral scholars who wrote on migration have put forward many reasons why people move from one place to another. These include but are not limited to political, social, cultural and religious factors. Scholars of Nupe history have recorded several push and pull factors that were responsible for the Nupe migration into places around the world. However, little or no attention has been placed on the factor of trade in the Nupe migration into Ilorin. This paper therefore, intends to examine the place of trade in the Nupe diplomatic relations with the people and authority of the Ilorin Emirate. These among other things relate to the identification and appreciation of values of the relations between Nupe and the Ilorin Emirate. Since this study is on the relations of the two cosmopolitan communities, it will be useful in pointing sources of mechanism valuable to sustain effective policy of peaceful co-existence, crisis management and global peace. This study adopted the historical research method, which involved the use of archival materials, oral evidences, and text content analysis. The study concluded that trade (with involvement in activities such as caravan trade, agriculture, currency production etc.) played prominent roles in the Nupe migration, integration and diplomatic relations into the Ilorin Emirate.
