    RECIDIVISM
(Nigerian Army University BIU, 2023) ADAMU, Musa Danyawo; JIMOH, Buhari Edun; ATIKU, Abiodun Abdullateef
Abstract Globally, recidivism has been classified into numerous definitions; these definitions reflect the unacceptable attitudes and characters with heavy negative consequences and implications for the entire society. The study investigate recidivism, a criminological analysis of Nigerian correctional facilities. A subject that has not gotten enough scholarly attention, and the Nigerian government has mostly ignored its social and psychological shortcomings. The study looks at the phenomena of convicted and reconvicted offenders, how often it has intensified, and how to carry out this horrible deed. It becomes much important to highlight its implication for society, security and possible way forward. The study adopted secondary data such as relevant journals, articles, online educational sites and print media. Classical model theory by Stephen Carney is used as a theoretical explanation for the study. The study concluded that societal labelling, stigmatization and isolation of offender have high influences on recidivism rate in Nigeria correctional center. Study also proffered recommendation to government and relevant agencies that there is need to equip with correctional facilities to meet up with international standard, medically, vocationally and educationally.
