Item INFLUENCE OF SELF-CONCEPT ON INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIP OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN ILORIN METROPOLIS, KWARA STATE(Nigerian Journal of Educational Foundations, 2017-03) AJIBOYE, S.K; YUSUF, S.; IBITOYE, O.A.This study investigated the influence of self-concept on interpersonal relationship of secondary school students in Ilorin metropolis, Kwara State. The moderating variables used are sex, class level and family type. Descriptive survey research method was employed in the study while the simple and stratified sampling techniques were adopted to draw a total of 600 students. The instrument used was a structured questionnaire titled “Influence of Self-concept on Interpersonal Relationship Questionnaire” (ISIRQ), which was developed by the researchers and possessed a reliability coefficient of 0.76. A research question and three null hypotheses were generated and the data collected were analysed using the measure of central tendency and ttest statistical method. All hypotheses were tested at 0.05 alpha level. The results thus revealed that self- concept negatively influenced interpersonal relationship of secondary school students. There is no significant difference in the influence of self-concept on interpersonal relationship of secondary school students in Ilorin metropolis based on class level but significant difference existed based on sex and family type. Based on the findings, the researchers recommended among others that school counsellors should synergise with other stakeholders in education to help students enhance their self-concepts in order to improve on their interpersonal relationshipItem Psychosocial Challenges of Disaster-Induced Internally Displaced Women in Lagos State(Centrepoint Journal (Humanities Edition), 2014) AJIBOYE, S.K; AKINLABI, A.A; AJOKPANIOVO, M.This study investigated the psychosocial challenges that confront disaster-induced internally displaced women in official camps in Lagos State. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The purposive sampling technique was used to select 200 respondents. A well-structured questionnaire titled, “Psychosocial Challenges of Disaster-induced Internally Displaced Women Questionnaire” (PCDIDWQ) was used for gathering data for the study. A research question and two null hypotheses were tested using the t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) statistics with a pre-set alpha of 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that family disintegration is the major psychosocial challenge of disaster-induced internally displaced women. It was equally revealed that there were no significant differences in the psychosocial challenges of respondents based on marriage type and number of children. Based on the findings of the study it was recommended that professional counsellors be actively involved in the provision of services such as trauma counselling, career counselling, and family counselling to disaster-induced Internally displaced women. Also, counsellors should place special focus on psychosocial challenges like trauma confronting disaster-induced displaced women.Item School-Related Problems of Displaced Adolescents as Expressed by their Parents in Internally Displaced Persons Camp in North-East, Nigeria(Journal of Education in Developing Areas, 2015) AJIBOYE, S.K; BOLU-STEVE, F.N; ODEBODE, A.AInternal displacement. resulting from insurgency has emerged the worst human tragedy ravaging the North-East, Nigeria since 2009; with much effect on women and young persons. The education of the school-going adolescents has been mostly affected because many school-going adolescents lived for long time En various internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps where school activities are often virtually difficult. This study therefore investigated school-related problems of displaced adolescents as expressed by (heir parents in IDPs’ camps in North-East, Nigeria. Thus, the population for the study consists of all displaced parents in IDPs’ camps in North-East, Nigeria while a total of 43 participants were selected using purposive sampling technique. The quantitative method was adopted using both the Focus Group Discuss ion (FGD) and Individual Interview techniques in two camps. The findings revealed that the major school-related problems of displaced school-going adolescents as expressed by their parents are: inability to participate in classroom activities; inability o write examinations conducted by external bodies such as the Junior and Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations; and inability to access educative materials. The study thus recommended that: mobile school service should be made available for school-going adolescents in LOP camps; and Examination Agencies should be mandated to conduct examinations for displaced school-going adolescents at possible time.Item Teachers' Perception of Needs for Elementary School Counselling in Ilorin Metropolis, Nigeria(Frontiers of Educational Management, 2015-11) AJIBOYE, S.K; ADEBAYO, D.O; AWOYEMI, A.OThe elementary school stage is the foundation for future academic, psychological, persona-social and career growth upon which the fulfillment of any child’s aspiration is anchored. Unfortunately, many children at this level attend school as a routine without adequate guidance. This study therefore investigated perception of teachers in Ilorin metropolis on the needs for elementary school counselling service. Quantitative measure is adopted to gather the required information. A total of 200 respondents were purposively selected across the variables of years of teachers teaching experience, educational qualification and gender. The study employed the use of a questionnaire titled “Teachers Perception of Needs for Elementary School Counselling Questionnaire (TPNFSCQ)”. The instrument had two sections A and B. Section A sought the demographic information, while section B elicited teachers’ perception. T research questions and three null hypotheses were answered and tested respectively. The results revealed that respondents have positive perception of the needs for elementary school counselling service. Also, there was similarity in t he perception of teachers based on educational qualification and years of teaching experience, but differ on the basis of gender. ii was recommended that, as a matter of policy, professional counsellors should be assigned to elementary schools. In addition, specialized training for counsellors on elementary school counselling is suggested.
