Item COUNSELLING-PANACEA FOR PROMOTING SOCIAL VALUES, SOCIAL RECONSTRUCTION AND SECURITY AS PERCEIVED BY COUNSELLORS IN LAGOS STATE(The Nigerian Journal of Guidance and Counselling, 2018) AGUBOSI, Lydia Akunna; UYANNE, Elizabeth Obiageli; ANYANWU, Chioma AkudoThe study examined counselling as a panacea for promoting social values, social reconstruction and security as perceived by counsellors in Lagos State.Nigerian as a nation is threatened with high rate of insecurity of lives and properties due to the negligence of the importance of inculcating social values (norms) which guide the behaviour of people in the society. Nigeria needs social reconstruction to revitalize the fallen standard of security and peaceful co-existence. The study carried out was a descriptive survey research. One hundred and ninety counsellors were randomly selected from secondary schools in Lagos state who responded to the researcher constructed questionnaire titled ‘ School Counselling and promotion of Social Values, Social Reconstruction and Security Questionnaire(SCPSVSRSQ)’. The instrument was validated by three experts in test and measurement and the reliability was obtained using test re-test method by giving the twenty copies of the questionnaire to respondents were not part of the study twice at three weeks interval and the two sets of the scores were subjected to Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation, the coefficient of 0.71 was obtained. Three hypotheses were formulated and tested in the study. The data were analysed with chi-square at 0.05 level of significance. All the three hypotheses were not accepted. Th findings revealed that the counsellors that counselling can be used to promote social values, social reconstruction and security and gender did not make differ in their perception. Based on the findings, it was recommended that counsellors should promote social values through counselling. Also, social reconstruction and security should also be promoted through counselling.Item EFFECTIVENESS OF COGNITIVE RESTRUCTURIG AND SELF-MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUES IN AMELIORATING PRE-RETIREMENT PHOBIA AMONG CIVIL SERVANTS IN LAGOS STATE, NIGERIA(Journal of Science, Technology, Mathematics and Education, 2019-03) AGUBOSI, Lydia Akunna; MULIKAT, LadiThe study examined effectiveness of cognitive restructuring and self-management techniques in ameliorating pre-retirement phobia among civil servants in Lagos State. The research was a quasi-experimental design. Population comprised civil servants in Lagos State in the six Education Districts, while the target population was civil servants in Education District 1 Agege selected through convenient sampling technique. Teaching and non-teaching staff (male and female) who were screened as having high pre-retirement phobia totaling one hundred and eighty were used as sample. They were grouped into three for experiment. Group 1 was treated with cognitive restructuring, group 2 with self-management technique. Group 3 (control) was just given a placebo. Three Null hypotheses were tested in the study. Two instruments, Self-assessment Retirement Checklist (SRC) and Pre-retirement Phobia Questionnaire (PPQ) were used for data collection. They were well validated and have reliability coefficient of 0.75 and 0.71 respectively. Analysis of data was done with t-test, ANOVA and ANCOVA at 0.05 level of significance. Hypothesis one was rejected while hypotheses two and three were retained. Result showed that cognitive restructuring and self-management techniques were effective to ameliorate pre-retirement phobia. It also revealed that gender and type of service did not make significant difference in retirement phobia (or in the effectiveness of the treatment). This research therefore investigated the factors responsible for students’ lateness to school as expressed by Nigerian teachers in elementary schools. The influence of moderating variables of sex, years of teaching experience and educational qualification on the respondents’ expression was also considered. The study is descriptive in nature and sampled 200 Nigerian teachers in elementary schools. An instrument titled “ Factors Responsible for lateness to school Questionnaire(FRLSQ)” was adopted to gather data. The descriptive and inferential statistics were used as methods of data analysis. It was revealed that the factors responsible for students’ lateness to school as expressed by Nigerian teachers in primary schools are poor preparation for school, going late to bed, distance of school from home, high level of poverty, peer pressure, single parenting among others. It is concluded that the factors responsible for lateness to school are enormous. Practical solutions were therefore recommended.Item IN-SCHOOL ADOLESCENTS’ ATITUDE TOWARDS SEXUALITY EDUCATION IN ILORIN METROPOLIS OF KWARA STATE(Journal of Educational Foundations and Development, 2018-05) AGUBOSI, Lydia Akunna; SHODIPE, Zainab Ibiwunmir; UYANNE, Elizabeth ObiageliThis study examined attitude of In-school adolescents towards sexuality education. Adolescence is a stage when sexual ideation and involvement in sexual activities are being experimented. It is a period of sexual development and maturity that needs to be guided otherwise can lead to sexual promiscuity and unwanted pregnancy. Descriptive survey was employed in the study. The population comprised the in-school adolescents in secondary schools in Ilorin Metropolis. 200 in-school adolescents were used as sample. One research question and three hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. Data collection was via the researchers’ designed questionnaire titled” Attitude Towards Sexuality Education Questionnaire(ATSEQ)”. The instrument was validated by experts in test and measurement and reliability was ascertained through test re-test method. The reliability coefficient of 0.74 was obtained by using Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation to analyse data via the questionnaire administered twice to respondents who were not among the sample at two weeks interval. Mean, rank order, ANOVA and t-test were employed to analyse data. The hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. While all the hypotheses were retained findings revealed that the respondents showed positive attitude towards sexuality education. Age, gender and religion did not make the respondents differ in their attitude towards sexuality education. Based on the findings the following recommendations were made: sexuality education should be strongly taught as a subject in the school, age of the students, gender and religion should not be barriers to teaching sexuality education in secondary schools. The school counsellors should organise a forum regularly in the schools where students are well counselled on the issues about sexuality education. Also parents should not shy away from discussing sexuality education with their children.Item THE PERSPECTIVES OF ADULTS IN KWARA STATE, NIGERIA ON THE PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC(African Journal of Biology and Medical Research, 2020) AGUBOSI, Lydia AkunnaCoronavirus disease is ravaging some countries of the world today. Efforts are being made globally to contain this deadly disease which has claimed many lives. This study therefore examined the perspectives of adults in Kwara State on the preventive and treatment measures for coronavirus. Attempt is made to explain the theories associated with the origin of coronavirus which are conspiracy theory, 5G theory and Nostradamus theory. The study adopted qualitative research approach. Population of the study comprised adults in Kwara State. Purposive sampling technique was used to select Ilorin Metropolis to participate in the study. Primary (oral interview) and secondary data were sources for data collection. Thematic analysis was employed for data analysis. However descriptive analysis was employed to analyze items . Findings showed that adults in Kwara State have their own preventive and treatment measures for the coronavirus. Among the items for prevention and treatment that reoccurred most are ginger, lemon and turmeric. Based on the findings, it is recommended that World Health Organisation (WHO) and researchers should test these preventive and treatment measures in order to accept or refute them in the containment of coronavirus pandemic.Item SECURITY RISK PRACTICES AMONG IN-SCHOOL ADOLESCENTS IN UNIVERSITIES IN KWARA STATE AS PERCEIVED BY UNDERGRADUATES OF UNIVERSITY OF ILORIN(Journal of Peace, Security and Development, 2019) AGUBOSI, Lydia Akunna; OKAFOR, Ifeoma P.The study examined security risk practices among in-school adolescents in the university of Ilorin, Kwara State as perceived by the undergraduates of the university. Descriptive research survey was adopted. Population consisted of undergraduates of the university. A multistage sampling method was employed to select two hundred undergraduates as sample who participated in the study. Data were collected via the researchers’ designed questionnaire entitled “ Security Risk Practices in the University Questionnaire (SRPUQ)” validated by experts in test and measurement while split-half was used for obtaining the reliability coefficient of 0.62. One research question and four hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. Hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed that security risk practices among in-school adolescents in the university include: cultism, living in unsecured off campus accommodation, studying late in the class among others. Significant difference was found in the perception of the respondents based on religion, no significant difference was found based on gender, age and year of study. It is concluded that in-school adolescents engage in security practices that can expose them to danger. The study recommends that at the point of entry to the universities the students should be counselled and be made to know and avoid these security risk practices and the university management should ensure safe accommodation and environment for their students.Item Socio-personal adjustment needs of fresh undergraduates as expressed by students of University of Ilorin.(Department of Science Education, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Nigeria., 2022-03) AGUBOSI, Lydia Akunna; AJOKPANIOVO, Michael; AWOYEMI, Alfred Olatayo; SOLIU, Robiat Wuraola
