Item PSYCHOSOCIAL CAUSES OF EXAMINATION ANXIETY AS EXPRESSED BY SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN ILORIN SOUTH OF KWARA STATE(Institute Journal of Studies in Education, 2017) AGUBOSI, Lydia A.; AKERELE, Patrick O.The study examined the psychosocial causes of examination anxiety as expressed by senior secondary school students in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State. Descriptive survey design was employed for the study. The population comprised of the senior secondary students in public schools in Ilorin metropolis. Simple random sampling was used to select one hundred and fifty students who participated in the study. Data collection was via a questionnaire tagged “Psychosocial Causes of Examination Anxiety Questionnaire (PCEAQ)” which was on a four point Likert scale. The instrument was content validated by experts in test and measurement while test re-test method was used to establish reliability of the instrument. The questionnaire was administered twice at the interval of two weeks to respondents who were not part of the sample. The data generated from the two administrations were corrected with Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Formular. The correlation coefficient of 0.77 was obtained. Data collected were analysed with mean and rank order for research questions while t-test was used to analyse the null hypotheses formulated to guide the study. Findings of the study revealed that inability to understand the teacher, poor retentive memory, emotional instability, inability to prepare for examination, inadequate learning material among others are psychosocial causes of examination anxiety. The study also revealed that age and gender did not make significant differences in the participants’ responses. Based on the findings it is recommended that counselling against high level of examination anxiety should be for both gender and without age discrimination.Item UPPER BASIC STUDENTS’ PERCEPTION ON THE CAUSES AND CONSEQUENCES OF EXAMINATION MALPRACTICE IN ILORIN EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENT(Niger Delta Journal of Education, 2018-10) UYANNE, Elizabeth O.; AGUBOSI, Lydia A.; AKINSEMOYIN, Lasbat O.; AJAGBE, Fidelia N.Examination is a potent instrument for assessing the knowledge acquired by humans especially in educational institutions. Examination malpractice is being misconstrued as a way to academic excellence. Examination malpractice in Nigeria in Nigeria has become one of the greatest social challenges that have eaten up deep in into all levels of the educational system. However, this study examined upper basic students’ perception of the causes and consequences of examination malpractice in Ilorin East Local Government. The sample for this study comprised 100 upper basic three students selected from five basic schools. Two research questions and two research hypotheses were generated and raised in this study. Research questions one and two were answered with the use of t-test at 0.05 level of significance. One of the findings of the study revealed that there is no significant difference in the perception of students on the causes of examination malpractice based on gender. It was also found that there is no significant difference in the perception of the students on the consequences of examination malpractice based on gender. Based on the findings, it was recommended that teachers should encourage students to be more proactive and efficient in all aspect of their lives by setting aside a particular time to study everyday so that they can get used to that.
