Item Prevalence and Determinants of Sexting Behaviour Among Undergraduates in Kwara State(Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) in collaboration with Institute of Advanced Engineering and Science (IAES), 2019) BALOGUN, A.O.; OBIMUYIWA, G.A; ABDULAZIZ, I.; ONIYE, R.K.This study investigates the prevalence and determinants of sexting behaviour among undergraduates in Kwara State. The population for this study comprised all undergraduates in Kwara State while the target population was undergraduates of three universities in the Kwara States. A stratified sampling the technique was used to categorise universities based on ownership (Federal, State and Private) as well as gender. A random sampling technique was used to select 100 undergraduates from each university, totaling 300 respondents. A researcher-designed questionnaire titled Prevalence and Determinants of Sexting Behaviour Questionnaire (PASODOEBEQ) was used to elicit information from sampled respondents. The instrument was validated by experts in Sociology of Education and Educational Psychology. Test re-test method of reliability was applied to test the reliability of the instrument, using the Pearson Product Moment Correlation statistics. The coefficient value of 0.86r was derived. The data collected were analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation and Multiple Regression Statistical Tool. The result of the findings revealed that sexting behaviour is prevalent among undergraduates and low self-esteem and peer association are significant determinants. The study recommended among others that schools authorities as a matter of fact should organize a sensitization workshop or seminar for undergraduates on the meaning, ripple effects and the punishment associated with sexting behaviour for necessary social adjustment.Item PREVALENCE AND STRATEGIES OF MANAGING DELINQUENCY AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN ILORIN METROPOLIS, NIGERIA.(NIGERIAN SOCIOLOGISTS OF EDUCATION OF NIGERIA, 2013-10) ABDULAZIZ, I.; SABA, M.D.The main purpose of this study was to examine the prevalence and strategies of managing delinquency among secondary school students in Ilorin metropolis, Nigeria. The sample for the study was made up of 200 students and 150 teachers drawn from ten secondary schools which spread across the three Local Government Area in Ilorin making 350 respondents for the study. The main instrument used in collecting data for this study was questionnaire, five research questions were asked and five research hypotheses were formulated. The hypotheses tested using t-test statistical techniques at 0.05 level of significance. The findings reveals that the peer influence is a factor is a factor responsible to a greater extent to delinquent acts among secondary school students in Ilorin metropolis. Findings from this study revealed that the delinquent acts in secondary schools has negative impact on the students due to students unrest at all time, truancy and examination malpractice. Therefore, the appropriate punishment must be giving to the students who are really involved in the delinquent acts by the schools authority as well as the state government.Item TEACHERS’ PERCEPTION OF CAUSES AND MEASURES OF TACKLING STUDENTS’ INSECURITY IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN KWARA STATE, NIGERIA(Faculty of Education, Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Kwara state, 2017-06) OLOKOOBA, I.N; ABDULLAHI, S.H.; ABDULAZIZ, I.One of the social problems that affect the country today is insecurity. It is a problem that bordering every individual in the society, educational sector is not an exception. This study examined teachers’ perception of causes and measures to tackle students’ insecurity in secondary schools in Nigeria. A descriptive survey research design was adopted. It was guided by three research questions. The sample for this study comprised 300 teachers and 113 school administrators selected using a stratified random sampling technique. The instrument is a questionnaire contained four sections. The data collected were analysed using means and standard deviation. The findings of the study showed that the prominent causes of students’ insecurity in secondary schools in Kwara State include the fact that many teachers in schools do not have adequate information on security education which can be used to assist the students. Measures to tackle insecurity in schools include training and re-training of teachers on security education and the roles of school administrators to ensure maximum security in schools also include pay more attention to students’ behaviours and react promptly to any issues that may affect them. Based on these findings, it was recommended that teachers should be trained and re-trained on security education so that they could ensure maximum security of students in the schools, school administrators should also intensify efforts on ensuring maximum security in the schools, intelligence gathering that would involve all stakeholders in education should be encouraged
