Abstract

Description

Africa is a land blessed with many natural resources yet Africans wallow in poverty and the continent has remained underdeveloped when compared to other continents despite the fact that civilization began from the continent. This chapter has been able to explore underdevelopment to in Africa tracing its origin from earliest civilization to the current post- independent Africa. The chapter was able examine the primary and secondary causes of underdevelopment in Africa as well as the problems and remedies to the problems of underdevelopment in the continent. Some of the remedies to the problems of underdevelopment pointed out in the chapter include: Respect for humanity, technological advancement, gender equality, open and accountable government, cultural reorientation, value change, and export promotion. It is believed that Africa can be a better place and rank well with other developed continents like America and Europe if these remedies given are fully adopted.
