Abstract

ABSTRACT Islamic Literature emerged as a discipline in Arabic Literature as a result of the influence of Islam and the Holy Qur'an. After other tribes beside Arabs embraced Islam, the traces of Islamic ideologies and its teachings became obvious in their literary works. Thus, Islamic Literature assumed the status of internationals literature as a result of the international appeal of Islam. It accommodates the literary works of all Muslim Worlds that expresses Islamic teachings, ideologies and way of life, regardless of the language of expression. Based on the above, we can see then influence of Islam and its teachings in the literary work of many tribes of Nigeria such as Hausa, Yoruba and Fulani. The works of Akilu Aliyu and Alhaji Labaika is a clear example of such influence. Similarly, the Nigerian short stories is also another example and at the international level, the literary works of people like Muhammad Iqbal of India and other non-Arab writers readily come to mind.
