Abstract
One of the most cardinal ingredients of democracy is the conduct of free, fair and credible elections. Credible elections are therefore vital to the existence of good governance anywhere in the world. It is generally believed that democracy through the ballot system, ensures credibility and good governance, and elections afford the citizens the opportunity to elect their leaders. Politics is supposed to facilitate governance but some politicians in their quest for political power have seen electoral violence as a stepping stone to realising their dreams.
