Examining the validity and reliability of the performance appraisal practices measurement scale in Kwara State Civil Service, Nigeria.

| dc.description.abstract | Performance appraisal exercises are progressively becoming significant methods employed for measuring and evaluating performances of the employees in organisation that usually occurs between supervisor and employees. Previous researchers have looked at performance appraisal exercises mostly in private sectors. However, researchers are yet to consider exploring into the divergent purposes of performance appraisal exercises in the civil service. As such, this study identifies five (5) practices of performance appraisal on employee performance; training, job promotion, performance feedback, performance recognition and financial reward assesses the validity and reliability of the scales for measuring performance appraisal practices in Kwara State civil service, Nigeria. The content Validity Index (CVI) of both the items-level and the scale-level CVIs from the assessments of seven (7) experts indicated that the items in the scale proposed have good content validity. In addition, with the use of the Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) with Varimax rotation, it was revealed that from the thirty-one (31) items used to evaluate the performance appraisal practices, only twenty-one (21) items were retained/maintained. Lastly, the results further demonstrate that all five (5) scales; training, job promotion, performance feedback, performance recognition and financial reward have acceptable values of reliability. | |
