dc.descriptionTerrorism is a global phenomenon which usually affects the economic and socio-political development of countries in the world at large. It was in view of this that, after the September 11th, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon, President George Bush, the then President of the United States of America promised to lead a crusader to rid the world of evil doers (Bovard, 2003:1). Within the African continent, terrorism has become malaise, which is adversely affecting many countries, especially Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt and Algeria. In Africa, the two prominent terrorist groups are the Boko Haram and the Al-Shabaab. Boko Haram's nefarious activities since 2009 are mainly in the North-Eastern part of Nigeria while Al-Shabaab's attacks are mainly carried out in the Southern and Central Somalia (National Counter Terrorism Centre, 2016). Terrorism in the North-East of Nigeria is one of the internal security challenges that the country is grappling with (Nwolise, 2017). Some others are militancy in the South-South, separatist agitation in the South-East, ethno-religious conflicts and kidnapping (Nwolise, 2017). The activities of terrorists have become problematic because of the destruction of lives and property in the countries concerned. For instance, on the 26th April 2015, seven people including four UNICEF employees were killed after an Al-Shabaab bomb attack on their car in Garowe Puntland in Somalia 1 North (Australian National Security, 2016).
