The constitution of the federal Republic of Nigeria is expected to represent the total views and interests of the generality of Nigerian citizens for the sustenance of the corporate existence of the country. It is instructive to note that the constitution as a legal framework and as ground-norm ought to provide solution to whatever problems connected with the Nigerian state, this is paramount because of the assumption of a general consensus that Nigeria should remain as one invisible and indissoluble sovereign nation. the paper examines the status of shari'ah under the Nigerian constitution while showing justification for Muslims' demand for a distinct legal system.en_US
