Reading has been identified as a spring through which knowledge is acquired. However, it has been observed that there is lack of enthusiasm among minors in Nigeria. This has largely contributed to the poor performance in their general examination such as WAEC and NECO. The objectives of this study were to identify the factors affecting minors and also highlight the challenges militating against the reading habits of minors. Minors in this study include children and teenagers. The study showed that factors include availability of reading materials, access to a wide range of reading materials, parental involvement, peer influence, the increasing use of technology, the curriculum in schools among others. The challenges faced on reading habits include the family background of students, lack of reading materials; lack of functional libraries among others. Recommendations made include educators and parents should work together to address negative attitudes towards reading such as only reading when exams are around the corner or reading only to please parents.
