dc.description.abstractGender equality is one of the topmost issues that should be put into consideration in order to achieve sustainable development of any society. Although, some scholars are of the opinion that men and women can never be treated equally but the fact remains that if men and women are treated equally it will definitely encourage sustainable development in Nigeria. This chapter discusses gender equality as a key to sustainable development in Nigeria. It is divided into six parts. The first part examines the introductory aspect; the second defines gender; gender equality and gender inequality; the third also defines the concept of sustainable development; the fourth explains the reasons for gender inequality; the fifth discusses the relationships between gender equality and sustainable development; the sixth part deals with women empowerment for sustainable development the seventh analyzes gender and development; and the eight part is the concluding and recommendation aspect.en_US
