Adopting a qualitative methodology, this article examined the causes and manifestations of the crisis between Governor Godwin Obaseki and his godfather, Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomole in Edo State. The article found that like other developing democracies, the phenomenon occurred due to the primitive accumulation mindset of the elite, lack of adequate knowledge of political ideologies and, imbibed parochial political culture. if further established that its manifestations negatively affect governance at all levels. The article recommended, among other things good governance, adherence to rule of law and the entrenchment of a participant political culture through civic education as well as revamp of the electoral laws.
