There are several violence-related deaths across Nigeria which escape public knowledge primarily because they are not captured by the media. Such cases of ‘invisible’ yet destructive incidents vary from high to low-level violent occurrences with attendant loss of lives and disruption of livelihoods. The central objective of this study is thus to unravel and document such incidents in Isin and Oke-Ero Local Government Areas of Kwara State between 2006 and 2014. Guided by the research instrument of the Nigeria Watch Project, a total of 100 copies of questionnaire were administered and complemented by 6 key informants Interviews (KII) and 2 Focused Group Discussions (FGD). The findings show that fatal violence in these rural and peri-urban communities was underreported in the media and resulted mainly from motor accidents, criminal activities and border disputes.en_US
