dc.description.abstractThe Niger Delta region of Nigeria is endowed with abundant natural oil and gas resources and therefore has enormous potentials for the economic development of the country. Even before Nigeria gained political independence, oil and gas exploration activities had started in the region as early as 1955. The foreign exchange earnings that have accrued to the nation from oil exploration in the region have been largely responsible for the economic development, albeit limited, that Nigeria has witnessed.en_US
