dc.description.abstractMovement of people, goods and services had existed in human society since time immemorial. The colonial government effectively engaged the pre – colonial and the newly introduced colonial transport systems to exploit and developed their economic potentiality. This situation exploited the Emirate. The railway was meant for long distances freight evacuation, while the road served as a feeder to a major rail line or the other as well as human porterage. The paper adopts a historical and analytical methodology using primary sources like archival documents, oral interview, newspapers, and some secondary sources. The paper concluded that the changing phases of colonial transport system had empowered, developed and generated huge revenue to the Province. It gave rise to the creation of a new class of elites among the people of Ilorin.en_US
