Abstract
Organisations are under tremendous pressure to improve their performance and
success in the business world. Work-life balance is an essential ingredient in any
organisation and has always been a concern for the quality of working life and its
relation to the quality of life. Hence, organisational commitment is one of the
influential factors in job success such that its maintenance and strengthening lead to
excellence in employees’ performance, career advancement and overall organisational
success. This study examined factors influencing librarians' work-life balance and
organisational commitment in Kwara State, Nigeria. The target population for the
study was practising librarians. A total enumeration technique was used to select 112
respondents, which represent the sample for the study. Data was collected using a self
designed questionnaire titled: work-life balance and organisational commitment
(WLBOCOL) scale of librarians. The results revealed factors influencing work-life
balance and organisational commitment of the respondents. Positive significant
relationship exists between work-life balance and organisational commitment of
librarians in Kwara State, Nigeria (r = .288, df = 95, p <0.05).Based on the findings,
the study recommended that library administrators, and most especially policymakers
in the education industry, should give adequate attention to work-life balance to
improve the organisational commitment of librarians.
