This study focused on the issue of sugar production for private and industrial consumption. After recognizing the centrality of sugar to human existence, it went on to examine the motivating factors for the establishment of the Bacita Sugar Company by the Federal Government. The company immediately after its establishment strove hard to meet the sugar needs of Nigeria. However, a combination of factors such as managerial problems, poorma/nfenance culture, availability of other sugar producers, amongoffers, has taken the shine from the Bacita Sugar Company, In solving the myriad of problems, the paper has called on both the Federal and State Governments to come to the aid of the dying Company.en_US
