Abstract

For long, much has been said and written attributing the increase rate of crime and moral decadence of youths in the society to failure of government, schools and parents. But little has been said on the roles of religious leaders in relation to their homes which lack the role model expected by their adherents and the society at large. The need to recapture church ministers’ sense of responsibilities towards their homes for the sake of the Church and the society cannot be over-emphasized and hence the objective of this paper. Historical and empirical methods were used to dig out some moral decadence in Eli’s home so as to unfold some lessons therein for the contemporary church ministers. The findings revealed that:lack of discipline, wrong examples, over-confidence and inadequate time for the home are major causes of decadence in Ministers’ homes. While the paper concluded that a man who does not know how to take care of his home may not be a good material or a good role model for the Church, it therefore recommend that good training, discipline and adequate time for the children must be given to enhance the integrity of church ministers homes. That will consequently serve as good role model for the church and the society at large.
