The mass media plays a key role in disseminating information to the populace. Crime-related stories are preponderant in news reports considering the increase of crime rates in recent times and its infiltration in most societies. The Nigerian terrain is not devoid of such law breaking behaviours. Hence, the incessant public awareness, criticism and condemnation of these vices via various hard/online Newspaper reports in the country. How this information is circulated and meaning is achieved via lexical choices is considered pertinent. It is through the significance of this, that, this paper underscored a lexico-semantic reading and meaning relations in selected crime- related editorials in Punch Newspaper. The data for the study consist of five crime-related editorials of online Punch newspaper dailies. The selected editorials were retrieved from the newspaper dailies published between 2020 and 2021. The analysis of the data was subjected to both qualitative and quantitative methodological approaches so as to arrive at the set objectives. The study adopted Adegbija (1989) typology of lexico- semantic variation and meaning relations in the analysis of the data. The study revealed that the English as a second language setting of Nigeria has afforded educated Nigerians or writers of the editorials to construct some lexico- semantic peculiarities of the English language exhibiting local Nigerian flavours which distinguishes it from lexico-semantics of Native speaker’s English. The study concluded that the media utilise language in projecting its views on issues of special and national interests while reflecting and representing happenings in the society.
