dc.description.abstractThe Executive secretary Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPRA) had in a statement that following extensive deliberations with stakeholders across the nation, the subsidy on premium motor spirit is hereby removed. By this announcement, the downstream sector of the petroleum industry had been deregulated. in the face of this, some petrol filling stations have started hoarding the product so as to cause artificial scarcity.This decision negatively affected every sector of the economy going by the purchasing power, cost of living, cost of running business, inflation, currency devaluation, job losses, increase in electricity tariffs, and deepening poverty. There is insincerity on the part of the government to deliver the dividends of democracy to the populace. The Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress issued and organized nationwide protest and demonstrations. Consequently, this paper seeks to examine the implicative nature of the removal of the subsidy on national security in view of the numerous security challenges facing the country, as well as the constitutional issues, human rights public enlightenment, subsidy reinvestment, empowerment programmes of the federal government and recommendations are prof erred.en_US
