Abstract

The relative importance of leadership style on employees’ productivity cannot be over-emphasized as it dictates the modus operandi of the organizational activities. This study investigated the leadership style used at the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Gombe. The study adopted a survey research design. Using a questionnaire as the instrument for generating primary data while secondary data were collected from nominal roll and other records of the organization. The population of the study was all the one hundred and seven (107) staff of Federal Inland Revenue Service Gombe office. Data gathered were presented and analysed using frequency table with Average Weighted Mean (AWM). The study found that FIRS, Gombe adopted a democratic leadership style.. The study found and concluded that leadership style in Federal Inland Revenue Service Gombe being democratic, allowed merit to rule in promotion and other benefits of the employees, that means entitlements are given to them as at when due. The study thus recommended that the leadership style in use be sustained as it incorporated the staff in decision making in addition to boosting their productivity.
