Abstract
This paper examined the influence of geriatric and social support care on the health of elderly people in lorin South Local Government, Kwara State. A sample population of two hundred and twenty aged people made the respondents for the study. A structured questionnaire that had been scrutinized by experts and pilot tested in the field was used to collect data from the respondents. The instrument was found to be reliable at 0.81 coefficient of correlation. Simple random technique was used to select the two hundred and twenty elderly people used for the study. Descriptive survey method was adopted for the study. The researcher with the help of four research assistants administered the questionnaires to the selected respondents. Three hypotheses were formulated and used for the study. The hypotheses were tested at 0.05 alpha level of significant. Data collected were analysed by the use of chi square (X') statistical method. The result of the study showed that the geriatric services rendered to the elderly people influence their health and well being. The result also revealed that the social support care given to the old people, impact positively on them. The study recommends that all elderly people should endeavour to visit hospital and health centre for regular and prompt medical check-up; relatives and friends of elderly people should always assist and support them to promote their health and well being.
