dc.description.abstractThe Eurocentric controversy that occupied the discourse space at a time on the non-existence of African directing and directing styles, which is an integral approach in play-making process, had been punctures by African theatre scholars. Consequent upon that, this paper chronicled scholarly directorial contributions of some selected Nigerian and Ghanaian theatre scholars who have used the art of play directing for the sustainability of African theatre. Qualitative research design was adopted, complimented by descriptive, deductive tools. Interview and participant observation approach were also employed to gather the data used in this work. In this direction, works of twenty theatre scholars were examined but eleven were purposefully selected for this study. The research finding shows that in Africa, especially among Nigerians and Ghanaians, are theatre scholars, whose ingenious contributions are in the fore in the sustainability of theatre practice in Africa. The paper concludes that these ingenious contributions were the reason why African's place in the global theatre parlance, especially in play-making art has grown in leaps and bounds. The paper therefore, recommended that more African scholars should explore more areas in inventive contributions, either in the theatre field or in other professional fields, inventive contributions, with a view to showcasing the ingenious prowess of African scholars in diverse fields.
