| dc.description.abstract | The emergence of Internet has brought tronsformation in scholarly publishing. Open access (OA) publishing plays a major role in scholory communication systemby focilitating occess and improving wide visibility of reseorch outputs. The tertiory education sector in Nigeria is considere d os one of the most influential sectors in terms of research that develop the country. In striving towards ochieving access without any barriers, a research bosed instütution must embrace OA initiativesthat enhance reseorch, teoching ond leorning process.This study investigates the adoption ond use of OA pubishing in Nigerian universities among the ocademic stof, with the concern on the foctors influencing their odoption ond use ofOA publishing in the unversty system. The study alsoattemprs to build a conceptual ftamework to the Nigerian caseocording to the results of regression analysis. A sample of 33? acodemic staff wos selected from the thre universities in Southwest Nigeria using random ond þurposive sampling procedures.A selfadministrated survey Was conducted on'337academic stoff arnd total of 3 17 participants (94.1%) have responded. Alsq,in-depth interviewswere onducted on four members of monagement stof.A Cronbach ojpho andysis of the questionnaire gove o reliabiy coeffdent of 08l and the splithaf method of test was used.The questionnalre was analyzed using the Stotisical Pockoge for Sociol Scences (1BM-SPSS) 19.0 version to generate descriptive statistics,Analysis ofVoriance and Hierarchical Multiple Regression. The results of the analysis contribute a new framework which is considered as a novel fromework in this study.
