Psychology as a discipline is concerned with studying, understanding and explaining both human and animal overt and covert behaviours; and ultimately modifying such behaviours when there is a need. To study and understand these behaviours, authorities in the discipline have propounded perspectives and theories to guide the endeavours. The perspectives and theories in turn help to guide the understanding of human personality development. This chapter will discuss the perspectives, theories and personality development and how they help our understanding of human behaviours.
